Saturday- Imogene @ 8:20. I'm leading this as well.

This will be my 3rd Summit and my wife's 2nd. Both my 4runners will be there with my wife piloting the 5th gen.

Sweet, Glad to see other 4runners from the forum going!

My roommate (FJC), and myself will be driving from Central FL out there, it's a little over 4k miles round trip, but really looking forward to it, always wanted to go when I had my FJ and but was never able to.

The real question is, what mods are you all planning to pick up before the summit?

We have been to 9 of the last 10 FJ Summits.

This year we are skipping it so we can hit some smaller vents. Every year summit wipes us out, between driving 1 or two vehicles across country to the event, lodging for 10-12 days, food for all 6 of us, sponsorship fees and odds&ins we never get out for less than $10-15k.

Perhaps next year, after we get this Tundra build behind us.

Book your campsites or hotel rooms early as they all fill up. Bone stock FJs and 4runners can do these roads but I would at least make sure you have good tires. Bring extra water and snacks for the trail. Those coming from low elevations should maybe spend a day or too just relaxing in Ouray or somewhere around there to get acclimated to the high elevations before the summit. Basic recovery gear is all that's really needed and I don't recall anyone needing much more than a tug on the trails. If you don't have a CB radio, get one. Honestly, the trend is moving toward HAM but there's still a lot of folks that don't have that yet, myself included and I doubt I'll get some HAM radios by then. Bring some extra spending cash as there's some good deals to be had on vendor row and you will want to buy plenty of raffle tickets for the big giveaway Saturday night. A first aid kit is always a good idea as well. Fuel up and air down the night before your trail runs. Go over your rig real good before going so you don't fall apart on the trail. One of our trail leaders rigs was literally falling apart because he did a rushed lift kit install just before the summit and didn't double check his work. I would especially double check the LCA bolts as the ones on my 4th gen back off occasionally. Be prepared for the weather to be cold, hot, and somewhere in the middle so dress in layers. Sunblock is also a good idea. If I think of more, I'll post them.

The real question is, what mods are you all planning to pick up before the summit?

Hopefully, I'll have my bumper and winch installed on my 4th gen by then. Also, hopefully I'll be adding more underside armor to both 4runners. Regearing both 4runners and adding a locker on my 4th gen is also on my wish list but I doubt those will happen by then. I'd also like to add HAM radios but again, doubt those will happen in time. I do need to replace the upper balljoints on my 4th gen, those definitely need to happen.

First summit for me as well. A neighbor with an FJ actually sort of influenced my decision to get a 4Runner in the first place. Also signed up for the FJ Roundup in September. Black Bear is going to scare the crap out of me on the descent into Telluride, but should be incredible!

As far as hotels go, make sure to call hotels as well, since several have blocks of rooms set aside and you won't necessarily see availability online.

I hope you take that FJ and get some use out of it Jim, if its all sorted out now. I would have never even gone to summit had it not been for you and Justin, this will be my first absence since Summit #2.

I submitted but was directed to the "waitlist" page. Have no idea how far behind I am of getting a slot. I emailed them and was just told there were several people ahead of me, but they do try to give everyone who is on the waitlist a chance to register and participate. I am sure the participant numbers are controlled to avoid groups being too large for the trails. Do they allow any tag-alongs on any of the trails, even though the spots are limited? Was super excited about making the trip, now totally bummed out.

Give it some time. Life happens and some folks end up not being able to go. I'm not even 100% if I'll be able to go or not. Just be patient.

Of course, this doesn't mean that you can't still just show up in Ouray and take in the beautiful San Juan mountains. All the trails are still open to the public and honestly it may be a better experience going at your own pace anyway. That being said, the summit is a great event and does give back (greatly) to the community.

I'm hoping to get it completely sorted out before the Summit but who knows. Because the engineering wasn't well thought out on the SAS I only have slightly more than 2" of up-travel before the axle makes contact with the oil pan. That's why the bump-stops are right on the axle. After seeing what RSG Offroad is doing with that 2016 TRD 4-Runner they're working on I got in touch with them to see if they thought they could raise the engine in my FJ a couple of inches (which they've done on that 4-Runner), which would eliminate my problem. They haven't gotten back in touch with me as of yet. I did take it to Moab late last September and it's very impressive. If I can get another couple of inches of up-travel in front (for a total of 4" or so) by raising the engine I'll be a happy camper.

Fri - the gultches
Sat - cal pass & corkscrew gulch

Not sure if The gultches will include corkscrew. May need to modify my runs? Does anyone know about this?

Super excited to go.

Hotel was booked couple months ago. Was thinking positive about getting in!
