Fog Light question - need help ASAP

I'm confused, though.... It sure looks like the fog lamp housings are there in the pictures. Even the projector lens is visible. What exactly was missing? Was the wiring present?

Needless to say, I also noticed that the fog lights appeared to be there... as any normal person would conclude. That's also why the argument that this car didn't come with them is faulty. If it didn't, it would have had a vent there instead. As for what exactly was missing behind the lens... keep in mind that I wasn't at the dealership when they discovered the issue, so I didn't see it first hand. However, the service writer described it as "missing the part where you would plug the bulb in. So I guess it was the entire socket and wiring associated.

With about a minute left it was still at $12k. Us last second cheating bastards bumped it up $2.5k in that last minute, but at $14.5k it is still a great deal (once everything is working properly).

That's an awesome deal on the 4Runner. It's funny that the seller even listed "Fog lights" under the Exterior section of the auction.

Not to ruin the joy of your new car, but if it were me, I would be wondering why the foglights were non-functional in the first place.

Otherwise, really nice 4Runner in a VERY rare color. Imperial Jade Mica was only manufactured for a few months before it was phased out.

This is the first time I hear about this issue, my 2003 SR5 came with fog lights and the switch was part of the entire headlight switch assembly. I never knew that fog lights were options on the Sports edition, I was under the impression that all Sports and Limited edition 4runners had fog lights as standard equipment. I would understand on an SR5 like mine to be an option but even mine it was part of the package...

Don't look now, but your seller is no longer a registered user.

According to Ebay's website, this means:

"Note: "Not a registered user" can refer to members who have cancelled their membership, or whose membership has been suspended by eBay. For example, a member whose correct contact information is no longer on file with us may have their registration suspended until the new contact information is entered. In either case, the member appears as "not a registered user" and is not allowed to buy or sell on eBay."

As for your situation...The ad listed the fog lights and showed them and says "Not a single defect on this vehicle."

Also says this was his personal vehicle for past 3 months, so he would/should know if something isn't working.

As a Non-lawyer, I'd say he is responsible. I hope you got in writing that you gave him the chance to fix it first, before going somewhere else to get it done. Then, I'd think you are covered. I would probably have waited to get it done, just in case- then used the less $$ aftermarket if I had to.

The guy should have at least offered aftermarket Fogs as a correction to save $$.

The bad thing, though, is that if he sold his "personal" 4Runner that low and is no longer a registered user, maybe he is in $$ trouble or getting out of the business??

If you're going to act, do it quickly.

You can expect some of this stuff from individuals, but dealers are usually held to a higher standard, especially in legal terms (I am assuming he is a legally licensed auto dealer?)

If you are concerned about a previous collision, consider having carfax run a pull on the Vin.

Net, any legal damage claim is done with a ref. to the vin number and this is kept on-line. Carfax is one of many companies that can see if any claims were made against the vin. So if a clain was made and insurance was involved, there will be a record. Even if the claim was handled without insurance, you still might find a hit.

When you take a car in to trade, you better believe that the dealer checks this site.

It's a huge database and can come in handy in situations like this. However based on the verbage from the ebay add, they left it open, as they are using the words "appears not to have".

Not true... my daily driver was in an accident, I went through insurance and they said I was at fault too. However, I had my friend (he had an unlimited subscription when he was looking for a used car and I figure he could check out my car) run a Carfax on it, it came back clean as a whitsle. So I know from personal experience Carfax isn't totally accurate and fool proof. At least they off some sort of money back guarantee.

I recommend using Carfax, but don't put all your eggs in one basket (relying on one source). Maybe if you can get access to something like ChoicePoint, since all insurance companies use them for quotes, you could see if any claims for a particular vehicle has been made.
