Fog Light Stalk on '96-'98?

I searched, read all the threads I could find, looked through the FAQ- I wasn't able to find anything on this.

I want to use the OEM '99+ turn signal stalk(with fog dial) on my '97. I've seen/read that it's an easy upgrade on the non-fog '99+, and all you have to do is add the stalk and relay. I know this isn't the case with the pre-'99, but was wondering if any of you have done this, and what's involved.

I can't answer your question — but I'll keep liking all your truck pictures. I think your truck is the best looking 4Runner I've seen. It sits perfectly in my opinion and it walks a perfect line between the natural beauty of the 3rd gen and your aftermarket mods/enhancements. Lots of great trucks on this forum, but there's just something about your truck...

Man, you're telling me; I want that Sport hood so damn bad!
I look at CL almost daily, and haven't seen one Sport hood! After the holidays and missed work from snow/ice, right now would be a horrible time to find one, so I'm trying to not look. I'm sure I could have B&R find me one, but I'm assuming they'll want $800, or something crazy.
Pretty excited to have the front end re-sprayed once I do finally get that hood though!

Wait, what? So the stalk needs modification to fit? I don't see how the fat lip bumper would remedy anything to do with the stalk fitment.
I do have a fat lip swapped, and that's what initiated all this [emoji12]

Wait a second, i interpreted that totally wrong. My bad[emoji23]. I thought you meant you were gonna try and retrofit the entire fog light+fixture from 99+ into a '96-98 bumper. Cause in that first pic you posted it looked like you had the stock 96-98 bumper.

Regardless of bumper/fog light setup; I'm just asking about making the '99-02 signal stalk- with fog dial- function in a '96-98.
I think as long as I can get a column harness from a '99+, I can get it to work fairly easily.

I did it into my 97. Super easy, all you have to do is to insert two wire pins into the existing wire plug and use those two wires to turn on the relay. I should have the thread somewhere. Let me find it.

For others looking at this thread... You can also use the turn signal stalk from a Camry, Solara and Sienna from approximately the same years. Make sure it doesn't have the DRL position though... I found them much more available and cheaper than ones listed as from a 4Runner.

Super easy. It will bolt right on. I did this to my 97, and avalon etc.in the same period, has the same switch. You have to insert two wire clips into your existing wire plug (have room in your wire plug) and pull wires to activate the relay. I did this so long ago and there should be a thread on t4r.

When you get fog light stalk switch, make sure to get 2 wire pins out of donor vehicle.

Where did you run the wires? I’m not very skilled with wiring. I’m not so bad as you should congratulate me for plugging in a lamp, but I was proud when I wired my 99 overhead console (with sunroof) into my 98.

Is it really worth it? I just used a Toyota stock panel Fog light switch when I added fogs to my '99 SR5. I didn't see the charm of having it on the stalk, especially comparing the added work and expense.

There's no added work on a '99+ - it is all plug-n-play with all OEM parts. The '96-'98 is a bit more work.

I'll be using the OEM dash switch for aux lights though...

I like the idea of it looking stock and having the extra opening for another switch, but that is only if it isn't too hard to run the wires for the 99+ stalk. But, that doesn't seem to be the case, so I'm probably going to have to make do. I appreciate the insight though.

I now have the stalk from a 99 Runner to run my light bar. I used to run a stalk from a 2001 Lexus ES300. On the headlamp side there wuz an extra switch with wuz annoying to me, so I switched it out.

I got a 97 Camry stalk put into my '98 and it works/fits but I don't have all functionality..

There's an extra pin going out from the stalk, which I'm guessing is for the fog relay, but I need to check.

I noticed there's an auto setting, and when I click over to it, all lights go off entirely. I wish it was actually auto so badly Anyone know how to make that function work? I would love to just leave it on auto and never have to deal with it at all...

You would need to get the headlight module from the Camry and install it in your rig and mount the sensor on your dash.
