The 2GR-FSE is a 305 HP 3.5L Toyota (Lexus) V6. The torque curve for it suits a car much better than a heavy vehicle like a 4Runner, though. Peak numbers mean nothing. BTW, the MDX, while being a unibody CUV instead of a BoF SUV, gets WORSE fuel economy than the 4Runner. It also requires premium to do that.

What engine is that since the V6 on the current 5th Gen 4Runner only makes 270HP?? Is that the Lexus IS engine? That is comparing apples to oranges. The Acura MDX is also an SUV just like the 4Runner and that is a much better and more accurate comparision.

Here are the exact specs of the 4Runner V6 from Toyota.com:

4.0-liter DOHC 24-valve EFI dual independent VVT-i V6 270 hp @ 5600 rpm/278 lb.-ft. @ 4400 rpm / Gas mileage: 17 / 22 mpg

And here are the Acura MDX specs:

Aluminum-alloy 24-valve, SOHC VTEC® V-6, 300 hp @ 6300 rpm/270 lbs.-ft. @ 4500 rpm / Gas mileage: 16 / 21 mpg

And looking at these specs side-by-side, it is clear that the 4Runner V6 engine is just as good as the MDX.

Yes, it is the IS350 engine. He said that Toyota couldn't make a 300hp V6. I was just refuting that claim and then went on to say how the MDX wasn't all that amazing. I think that the new 4.0L is a great engine. It propels the 4Runner to 60 in well under 7.8 seconds and a sub 16 second quarter mile time.

My wife has the IS350 with that V6 and other than the BMW turbo six, its probably by far the best performing six cylinder vehicle I have ever driven! As for the V6 in the new 4runner, with the added weight this year, I was impressed! It not only makes great torque and HP but gets excellent fuel economy too.
