For Those Of You With Nav...

I found this thread right before a 6 hour trip by myself... so I did some playing around...

The 'load' menu was very interesting. I only noticed one thing after loading different 'programs'. The default satellite location seems to change. i.e. I didn't get GPS signal on most of the programs. This should help you figure out which one was the default... just check all of them until you have the best signal. This might also help some people that don't get a very good signal to begin with. Load other programs.. see if that works. It seems like each program loads a general location in the world???

I was hoping one of them would remove the 'I agree' warning at startup, but sadly, none of them did that. : (

I also spent a good amount of time touching the corners of every single menu I could get into... I couldn't find any other secret menu's.

Any other people look at the other menu's???

That looks just like my AVN 5435 NAV unit that I put in mine. I don't think that I have to play with this because I grounded the parking brake wire permanently, but I thought that was only for the dvd operation. Is that the same as an Eclipse?

I can confirm the override works like a champ on the 2006 OEM Nav system!! I tried it out on my lunch break and was able to program a destination while the vehicle was in motion.

Then I ran off the road into a telephone pole. :driving:

2004 Navigation Service Menu

I found the service menu on the 2004 OEM Nav system. Press the Menu tab, then select DVD. On the DVD screen press (no button just the screen):
top left
bottom left
top left
bottom left
bottom right

The service menu appears (just like the posts about the 2005/06 model. Every button works BUT the Override. Let me know if anyone figures this out.

I solved the Override issue!

If you follow the directions above to get into the Service Menu you will see the Override button. Push the button until it beeps (2 or 3 seconds). At that point you can drive and have full navigation functionality. The passenger can input addresses at any speed.

Yes, it's not a permanent override. You need to do the button pushes in the volume screen and enable the override each and every time your start the truck.

You can get the override function back. You need to copy the new DVD disc and replace the "loading.kwi" file with the one off the old DVD disc that allow the override function and burn it on a double layer +R disc. Essentially, you make a hybrid disc which will have the new map data and software with the old "loading.kwi" file.

a word of advice, dont mess around and try to load any other programs in that secret menu, my nav no longer works and just displays asian writing ans says to insert a new disk.
anyone know how to reset the nav??

Ok I tried the top left, bottom left etc. override in the volume menu with no luck. I have the Eclipse AVN62D navigation unit. The disk says v3.1 or something. Anyone know how to get this to work? My buddy has the same setup in his 08 sport and his system is permanently unlocked. The lucky SOB. He didn't do anything to it, some service guy must have been feeling generous that day.

I know with mine, I have to touch the top left, bottom left of the screen a couple of times (I think it's top-bottom-top-bottom) before I am sent to the screen with the "override" botton.

To "permanently unlock" Eclipse units, you just have to permanently ground the parking brake sensor wire. If your Eclipse was installed according to the directions, the parking brake wire disables most navigation functions when it doesn't see the parking brake grounded. So all you have to do it just ground that wire to fool the system into thinking that the parking brake is always on and you'll have full control at all times.

Ok ... So you have to do this everytime...wouldn't it just be so much easier to cut the existing ground wire and ground that wire to the body...this unlocks everything...your gps controls...ipod controls if you have them...just saying i'd hate to have to repeat that step every time i needed to input something.

Are you referring to the OEM Toyota nav or the Eclipse? Eclipse nav's can do the permanent grounding for the bypass.

From what I recall on the OEM nav:
The OEM Toyota nav from what I've read cannot. IIRC, there isn't really a permanent bypass (unless we're talking about CoastalTech or VAIS Tech kits) for Toyota nav's. One way to do the bypass is to cut the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) wire which activates the lockout when you start moving. However, Toyota navs also rely on the GPS antenna and when that senses movement the lockout happens again within 30 seconds, not to mention the cutting the VSS wire makes the nav map track sporactically. (Basically, the GPS antenna is indicating movement, but there's no input from the VSS and the map has to update the current position.)

So the only common method to bypass the OEM Toyota nav is by installing a switch after cutting the VSS wire. You flip the switch activating (as if the VSS wire is cut), giving you about 30 seconds to put in inputs and when you're done switching it back (VSS wire is reconnected) so the map will track smoothly.
