Forum is unusable

The forum now seems to be moving lightening fast, online through the web browser on my iPhone. The Tapatalk app is giving issue though. Can’t win for nothing lmao!

Happy to see the forum back up and running properly again. Hopefully it will stay this way for years to come. Now one more wish, let’s get rid of all the ads on here!

I'm getting bot challenge which has helped. It's easier to get in now but still slow compared to other forums I belong to. For hosting done right, see 4Runners. They are fast as can be.

This forum is running better then it has in a long time. Is it perfect no. However, its a lot better then it has been in quite sometime. So the admins and owners need to get some credit here. So I give credit when credit is due. :-) I rather have a few checks in then to deal as its an improvement on this site. Great job to those to help correct the issues as we appreciate it. :D

Working well from the Netherlands this AM. I have yet to see a vintage Toyota here, but I just arrived yesterday.

Have you seen one now?

As a regular player on the other forum, after cutting my teeth on this one for a few years, it's ridiculous that folks have to guess what's going on behind the scenes, if anything. Maybe there's a fix, maybe not. It tried to identify me as human. But no explanation as to why? The apparent refusal by admin to communicate on this forum is annoying at the least.

In one of these threads I saw where this website was experiencing a DDOS, a Distributed Denial of Service attack. That's where a number of computers are used to access/pound a website so that no one else can access it. It can be done for a number of reasons (spite, prank, threat, etc.) but the result is what we have been experiencing. You can't get normal access to the server.

I have my own personal website hosted on a free site and it was allowed something like 10K user accesses a day. When I first moved it there it ran fine for over a year. I posted a thread in their forum, including some links to the site. That night my site was disabled because I exceeded the 10K limit that day. 24 hours later it was active again but within 3 minutes of becoming active it was shut down again because it reached the limit. I couldn't get those admins to understand what the problem was, so I gave up and moved to another site.

So the "I am not a robot" checkbox is there to stop this kind of attack. As a human you have to check the box each time you access the site. That's something that the DDOS software can't do. Bad guys do have ways of defeating that too. That's why at other sites you have to enter in a funny looking number into a box or check the boxes that have something, like bicycles or something.

I can't speak for the admins as to why they didn't post something, but with my personal website I couldn't even get to it because the host shut it down. There was no way for me to post anything for my users or do anything with it. I was completely shut down. I also know (previous life in IT) that sometimes problems are so bad that all your resources are directed at finding the problem, formulating and implementing a solution. Updates are provided verbally in meetings, which isn't possible here since our only access is via the website.

So they were probably very busy and didn't have the resource or means to notify everyone. Again, I'm just guessing. Maybe now that it's fixed they'll post something.

Admin was busy, but not here. They went weeks at a time without logging in during the worst of the problems. As far as I can tell, there are no active staff/moderators, all have been gone for months or years. Its great that its working, for now, but the lack of any meaningful communication or active staff suggests that whoever is behind the curtain is just driving the forum with outdated software until the wheels fall off to collect ad money. That's just my opinion of course.

....

I'm new here but not new to car forums, honestly this is probably the most convoluted and problem plagued forum I've ever seen. It's one thing if this were some whatever forum with no members but it appears to be pretty busy. The incessant ads are just silly, I realize this place isn't a charity and someone has to be making money here for it to be even open but it's really overkill. Also it runs incredibly slow and plagued with errors. The worst being I never stay logged in, on my phone I have to log in every time I go to the site and on a computer it's not every time but probably every other time, even if I check to stay logged in.

It doesn't have anything to do with the age of the software I was on forums 20 years ago that were in much better shape than this one, not even close.

Also, to pile on, when you log in and type up a new post and get it just right and hit submit. The site says "hey you aren't logged in anymore, go ahead and do that", and when you do it, your draft post is GEE OH EN EE. <sigh>

If your browser is set to clear your cookies and browsing history, you'll have to log in each time. Mine is turned off and I never have to log in unless I log out.
