Hey everyone,

This is my first post and ive fallen in love with this truck. I'm in the market to buy a new SR5, and found a dealer that has some 2010 models leftover. Do you think it is possible to negotiate the pricing down a little bit more because of this?

They have lots of 2011 in stock but a few leftovers 2010 models and I'm wondering how to proceed with this.

Thank you.

Absolutely, tell them to knock a big chunk off and you will take a 2010 off their hands. If not, what would stop you from buying the 2011, no one would pick the 2010 over the 2011 for the exact same price, that is just stupid for resale. Just make a point that you are doing him a favor by taking it off his hands. Tell him you are ready to pay and ready to make a deal, it should work.

First, is there a '10 with options you want?

Second, an '11 should be able to be bought somewhere between 10% off to 15% off msrp (speaking generally). Be alert to avoiding dealer "packs" like etched glass, etc. (If they are there, figure their value at half of asking price - or just say 'I don't want that').

So after that, it's just a matter of what you're willing to pay for a "year-old" vehicle.

Roughly, I'd calculate 15% off msrp, and offer them $2k less. Me, I'd consider that a very good deal. Avoid a trade-in if at all possible.

I think this is pretty good advice. I would say at least $2k less. How long do you plan on keeping the vehicle? If you are keeping it for more than 5 years, then the mileage you put on it will come more into play than the year of the truck when you go to sell it. I don't put a ton of miles on my secondary vehicles, so I generally buy leftovers and after 7-8 years I have always done well selling them compared to similar vehicles of the following model year.

Thank you everyone for such good advice. The specs are:
2010 Toyota 4Runner Our Recommended Choice
SR5 V6 5-Speed Automatic 4dr 4x4
FE - 50 State Emissions
PN - Anti-Theft Alarm System
SR - Power Tilt & Slide Moonroof w/Sunshade
Z1 - Preferred Premium Accessory Package

MSRP: $33,158
Dealer Price: $30,549

I plan on using this truck for at least the next 7 - 10 years.

So 15% off the MSRP is (33,158 - 4973) = $28185

yay! off course i'll be wary of what else they will add.

I just recently picked up a left over myself. I grabbed a 2010 Limited that had a sticker price of $43,000 for $37,000. I don't know if the margins are the same for the SR5's but I can't imagine them being very different.

I think if that 2010 SR5 has a third row seat and Premium package if you get it for $30k that more or less is a good deal, most people here pay $31.5k to $33k for it depend on the supplied at the time. Again its only in my point of view, others may have different opinion.

So another dealer has this:
2010 SR5
w. Leather seats, backup camera, sunroof, carpet mats,mp3 audio... for $31.5
It's 1500 below invoice.

guys...i'm going crazy over what to do. Need to pray : )

I guess the reason why i'm so nervous is that this is my first true "adult" purchase after graduating college. haha

If it's the car you want, the color you want, the features you want, and the money you have/willing to spend. Go for it, you'll be happy a happy T4R owner like the rest of us.

If you are planning on keeping it 7-10 years you might want to see how much they can move on an extended warranty once you have the vehicle price you want - there is a ton of margin in the warranties so they can move a lot to sweeten the deal

I payed around $1000 under invoice for my 2010 back in september. I would think you could do a lot better than that for a 2010 at this point. I know you could get a 2011 for not too much more than that up in the northeast (not sure where you are).

yay!!!!

Thank you everyone!!

I bought it late saturday.
A 2010 SR5 White Blizzard Color:
Leather Premium package
Moonroof
Dimming lights, back up camera
upgraded radio
running boards
