found my tire swing, need mounting help

found yet another wonderful craigslist find. a real 4runner rear tire swing will all the mounting hardware. would love to get it on this weekend. just wondering what all re-enforcement needs to be done, will be holding a 35" tire. if anyone had any pics or insight it would be great.

You will most likely have to modify the hinge point. On many 2nd Gens, the rear carrier bolts above and below the tailight.

However, on our rigs, the rear Hatch negates that possibility. (Some second gens have a truck style tailgate with a glass that flips up) Correct me if I'm wrong folks???

That being said, it's not entirely impossible to mount it on your rig....just need to do some fabrication work to make it work!

Blcktpgsr's got a good writeup in his build thread on how to install the Hilux Surf tire carrier....actually...he just posted the how to the other day:

This could show you what the hinge mounts need to look like.....

Also, I can't remember the forum member's name, but there is a guy on here with a Taco front Clip and SAS that had put a 2nd Gen Carrier on his 3rd Gen right before he sold it.... You can try to do a search and see if you can find a writeup on that....

not sure about the 2nds, thought they dropped down. but anyways i found this 4Runner factory swing-away spare tire carrier retrofit, so i bet i cab figure it out pretty easy, i am good at figuring and designing stuff, i remember that taco front guy but cant remember who

x2. I would totally throw one on if it is a less expensive alternative to a Hilux Surf tire carrier and will work until i get a decent rear bumper/carrier.

I bet Yoda Jims has a few 2nd gen tire carriers.
