Nah, I just like calling people on their BS, you want to cry and moan about what the dealership did to the car that you agreed to buy, then twist their arms after the fact, cost them a bunch of money and still want to call them crooks.

They all do this. Then the F&I guy can press you. "it's already installed, don't you want to be safe?" I think it also ties into their system where they can use a communal device to unlock the cars. I was told that they charge to remove it. I find it nothing more than something that gets stuck on my foot. It's a few wires, a drill and some cheap electrical tape. Not a finesse job by any means.
This brings up a question, what are you doing to secure your 4runner if not using KARR.

Wednesday I finally got the 4Runner back with the repairs made. I also received an email confirming that the wiring repairs are covered under the warranty. I'll be keeping copies of that around! I did pop the kick panel and inspect the repaired wire and I added a couple of ty-wraps to rebundle the group of wires that had the factory wrap peeled off.

Maybe in CA, but I don't have it on mine.
Garage parked at home and secured parking at work. Nothing else more than factory alarm elsewhere.
Secure with a Chain
I went to Home Depot and purchased about 7' of stainless steel chain , one larger yellow lock , and one smaller lock . Total about $ 20 .
Wrapped one end of the chain around the seat bracket , and wrap the chain up and around a yellow club , and padlocked both ends . Kept the two keys for each lock in separate places .
Any fool can look through the window and see the yellow club , the chain , and the larger yellow lock . Presto : all secure .:trophy:

This is hilarious. I bought my 4R at Right Toyota in Scottsdale and when I told them I didn’t want to pay for an alarm they told me it was installed at the Port of LA, as soon as it was off loaded.
It really pissed me off that I spent nearly 40K and they couldn’t just hit the “On” button to activate my alarm before I drove off. What a money grab. Hypothetically- does anyone know if there is a way to activate an alarm on your own, or with a little help from your friends?

The factory alarm and imobilizer is still there. You don’t need that piece of crap “dealer” alarm, all it is is an ignition wire disconnect. Any theif that knows how to defeat an imobilizer would know how to reconnect the ignition wire.
They install these in the cars because in “dealer” mode a single key fob will unlock all cars. They sell it to clueless people as non hackable alarm (their words) to recover the cost.

I believe I was told it also has a glass break sensor and motion. I have noticed if you shake the vehicle or attempt to open a locked door you get a short car honk warning. I agree though-this process is bullshit and before too long the dealership will be a thing of the past.

Not sure I ever got back about this.
So that waste of two holes in my dash (no biggie but still...) was pointless and had ZERO use for me. I did nothing- no alarms whatsoever and was from another dealership that I guess shipped this machine to the one I bought it from that does not have a deal with "KARR".
They dealership which I hate since they won't return calls most of the time DID finally uninstall it at no charge.
It's gone. The 4Runner works fine. Adios to that junk.
I figure why should I have to take it out or pay for that effort? Their junk and since they love to overcharge for 4Runners in CO big time- the least they can do.

What's the status of this w/r/t Toyota warranty service should there be an electrical issue?
I just found one of these on my truck and it seems that it may void the warranty - pp71-73 of the Owner's Manual states:
CAUTION
■
Certifications for the engine immobilizer system
Changes or modifications not expressly approved by the party responsible
for compliance could void the user’s authority to operate the equipment.
NOTICE
■
To ensure the system operates correctly
Do not modify or remove the system. If modified or removed, the proper operation of the system cannot be guaranteed.
This is both on the Engine Immobilizer and Alarm System page. CA here - no "cooling off" period. Am I SOL? I've e-mailed the dealership to ask for clarification but damn...

I got my dealer to remove it and I also got them to state in an email that my warranty was not affected and they would cover any impacts from the installation and subsequent removal of the unwanted and unauthorized aftermarket alarm system.

Interesting. I spent all morning on the phone with the dealership and Toyota...
Dealership walked back their claim it was a Toyota-approved device and also stated they should have disclosed the alarm before sale. They stated it "shouldn't" void the warranty but also haven't sent me an e-mail confirming they will cover the warranty service. They said they'll have KARR reach out via e-mail to offer to cover any costs related to the installation...
I spoke with Toyota and it seems like they have a rote reply:
We cannot speculate as to any damage which may or may not occur. If the dealership states that it will not void warranty, then we stand by them.
This was repeated about 10-15x before I finally said "So you're telling me that an aftermarket part, which was installed by cutting into the existing Toyota electrical system, would not void the warranty once removed? If the wire, which has been cut, shorts out at that specific location, Toyota will cover the cost if it occurs during the 3/36 electrical warranty period?"
"No, Toyota will not warranty any repairs due to the installation or removal of aftermarket parts to Toyota vehicles."
I also asked if Toyota itself offers any recourse for a consumer purchasing a Toyota product from a Toyota-authorized dealership. I kept getting the same answer: "Toyota will send a notification to the dealer asking them to investigate, which they know is from the NATIONAL headquarters, and they take very seriously. We do not make the results of those investigations public."
Finally, after 40 minutes trying to get an answer to some questions, they compared the installation of the KARR alarm system to a dealer putting new wheels on the car and congratulated me on my new Toyota purchase...

I probably should have read further along but been one of those days. ANYWAYS-- ALWAYS STAND FIRM WITH THESE DEALERSHIPS.
THEY ARE HORRIBLE substitutes for a person. They do NOT care about you even when they have managed to convince you so unless you perhaps have an open checkbook (still fake kindness).
THEY OWE IT TO YOU TO REMOVE IT WITHOUT ISSUE. Talk to the service manager as sometimes they are a little more "with it".
Either way- if they put that mess in or commissioned it- IT'S ON THEM
I'd tell you to write/email Toyota Cares or caresless or whatever it's called now- they don't care.
I am more than happy to pretend to be a lawyer without actually saying I am but scaring the bejesus out of them. I do freelance and columns so I have a knack lol.
