Free up engine bay space when installing a snorkel!

I just came across this and plan to go this route when I add a snorkel down the road. I figure it may help someone now. You can use this and route a straight line from the TB to the fender and into the snorkel. This allows you to remove the stock air box completely, leaving a bunch of room to add more shit under the hood. I've already removed my box in exchange for a second battery and currently run a hot-air intake setup.

*Make sure you figure out a way to seal this air box completely with silicone caulk or some other means. I haven't seen a good enough picture of the interfaces to recommend a proper way.

The airfilters inside that. It replaced the airbox. Your maf still would be in the intake tube like it is now.

Gunna need to see a diagram or something to understand how that would work cause you originally said straight off the throttle body, the MAF is on the complete other side of the intake tube and the mount is attached to the intake box..

This is obviously not a plug and play kit. I mean I could fab up a plug and play kit if people wanted to pay. You just need to have a piece of tubing with the maf plumbed into it with couplers connecting it to the TB and the inlet to that air box I posted. Then coupler on the outlet of the air box. Trim the fender to fit another piece of whatever tubing you're using and couple the airbox oulet to the tubing to the snorkel.

If you really need a diagram I can draw one or my current intake setup is kind of like the first half of the design I laid out in the first paragraph which would give a ballpark idea. I can shoot you a pic. Lmk.

P.s. you can relocate the maf anywhere infront of the TB and behind the airfilter. Only constraint is to try to keep turbulent airflow across the maf to a minimum for accurate readings when building your intake piping.

Can someone explain the purpose of a snorkel other than possibly cleaner air on a dusty road and looks?
I can’t imagine folks doing water crossings with these rigs and they look like they would be hell in a cottonwood bloom.

So you don't suck up water when crossing rivers or if maybe you hit a massive puddle that flooded your engine bay, the engine wouldn't suck up water. But really it's for when you drive into bodies of water like a river. It's called fording

I asked because I was curious if there was some inherent difference with these Toyota SUV's that made a snorkel advantageous for other than driving in deep water. You seem to have made a few modifications to your air intake and plan on adding a snorkel so I thought you might know.
Sounds like you know of a place where you can drive your rig in deep water.

I asked because I was curious if there was some inherent difference with these Toyota SUV's that made a snorkel advantageous for other than driving in deep water. You seem to have made a few modifications to your air intake and plan on adding a snorkel so I thought you might know.

No like I said. Other than to be tacticool, water ingress is the only reason. stock system would be better than the snorkel for dust.

To be honest, most do it for looks. The stock intake is tucked at the top of the fender and behind the mud guard too so water can never splash into it, you literally have to be fording 3' or water or higher. By then you're also getting water into the cab through grommets or the firewall and the rear air vent into the cargo area.

Now I do realize that there are some on this forum that do ford those kinds of rivers and have a need to have a snorkel, not bashing that. It's just that the majority of Jeeps & Toyotas you see driving on the highway will never see that kind of water so it's just for looks.

Yup. I'm still debating if I want to do it. I removed my stock airbox to install a battery in its place, so my best option it the snorkel. Don't plan to do too many water crossings, but my air filter is currently in the open in my engine bay and a good dunk in some water would splash enough in there to hydrolock my engine.
