fresh air button keeps opening when cold

i did a search, but maybe i don't know the right name for this button.

basically, the fresh air intake button keeps opening when it is below 50 degrees it seems. it never opened in the summer, but now that it has been getting cold, it seems to keep opening up.

is there a solution for this?

I assume you mean the "recirc" button?

It's computer controlled to automatically turn off (circulate the air) after about 3 minutes- I may be wrong on the time. It does this to help keep the air inside your 4Runner fresh and keep your windows clear.

If you press and hold the button for a few seconds it will stay on and not turn off until you turn the truck off or press the button again.

I wondered why my windows have been fogging so much. Normally my thinking has been to only use outside air when it's cool but not cold, and I am not going to use AC or Heat. I was under the impression it would be easier to keep hot air hot, or cold air cold that way. However it leaving the recirc off will keep my windows from fogging that would be great. I hate having to move from defrost back to heating.

The mode just before defrost allows for foot heat along with defrost at the same time.

You should always have it on fresh outside air.... recirc only in the heat of summer with A/C on.
In the winter, the heater core is MORE than powerful enough to heat fresh air.

I also like recirc first thing on cold mornings when the engine isn't up to full heat and its like an icebox in the rig. And when there is something stinky outside like a diesel truck or freshly fertilized fields.

ever use the 4th gen's climate controls? now there's something to *HATE*...

Obviously I understand there is defrost only, and defrost plus lower heating. However the 4Runner is the only vehicle where the recirculate has caused such fogging even long after the vehicle has heated up. Turning the recirculate feature off has certainly taken care of that problem though.

I agree with what others have said, my 2013 SR5 has the most difficult to modulate heating and cooling of any vehicle I have owned. Not a huge issue in the grand scheme, but I find myself constantly turning it down and then turning it back up...

If I recall, you can change that behavior in tech stream as well. I seem to recall seeing an option for that, but I didn't change it because it doesn't bother me.

Because I only tried it on a whim. When I found that worked I started holding all the buttons down for 3 seconds trying to unlock the secrets.
Tho only other legit one I found is if you hold the gas pedal down for 3 seconds the truck will go faster.
