A more clear shot of how well it is handling (simulated) ruts... IMG_5201.JPG

Despite being on the cusp of being at full bump, I do not feel comfortable seeing this! Extended bumps are coming for sure... IMG_5184.JPG :dammit:

Here's a final shot to close out this topic until the time comes to one day replace the heims. IMG_5210.JPG

Install went well, I have to shorten the panhard bar as it is too long, unfortunately that is the price to pay when buying non-name brand items. They have taken a few hits and not even a serious dent. It comes down to (how far are you willing to go to make things work?) At this point I can confidently say that they are up there in terms of the quality (FOR THE PRICE) in comparison to TC arms or another name brand... $400 isn't bad at all.

Front End Facelift

A storm's brewing in my garage! IMG_5214.jpg

The new Bilstein 8125 Coilover matched with 14" 650lb king springs or Eibachs; this is a short bodied version of the coilover. 60mm shock body, 8" shock travel with a beefy shock stanchion. This external resi setup is a bit different from any Icon or King setup, primarily because of the amount of shock travel. The damper is also in the external resirvoir canister where the shock oil is held. I was perfectly content with the coilovers I have currently on my rig, I just recieved an offer I could not refuse and I will be paying no money out of pocket for this upgrade.

I will be running a limiting strap setup at 10" or 11".

Link haha
Do you have a link for those rear arms ?

Unfortunately I bought these towards the earlier half of this year and I no longer have the link to where they are listed nor can I find them in any searches I've done. I looked for a while this morning and nothing. :pout:

Be looking around on Ebay because I bought both front and rear control arm sets that I have purchased from there. So far, theyve been exceptional.

Update time:
New Bilstein 8125 in my possesion now Bilstein 8125.jpg
I need this 90 degree fitting to run it without interfering with the UCA's Eaton 90degree fitting.jpeg

I will be running Sonoran Steel's Limiting strap frame mount with:
- Kartek Quad Wrap Blue 10" limiting straps
- Trail-Gear 9/16 shank Multi-Strap Clevis mount
- Toytec's External Reservoir Mount kit
- King 3.0" ID/ 14" 650lb Springs

The additional modification I will need to make is to the misalignment spacers on the lower mount of the CO's. They are spaced out to 1.5", and if my measurements are correct 3rd Gen's have a lower mount spacing of 1.25".... No big deal, I will just shave 0.25" off of the front misalignment in order to shift the mounting of the CO forward of the CV axle.
This is not for any particular reason, just to have a bit more peace of mind that the CV will not contact the CO.

Re-gearing finally!!!! From stock to 4.56 E-Locker will be a huge improvement for me. 5-speed + 4.56 + 4Lo = Good Times! Doing the front transmission seal from the R150F I picked up off of Car-Part.com . No current plans to run 35's... Can anyone convince me? I feel that 4.56 with 5-speed and 35's can make for some good wheeling, any opinions on 4.88? I still want decent highway speed.

Nice!! I was looking into running the 8125's. Those are 8" travel shocks? Shouldn't you be running 18" coils instead of 14" coils then? I'm interested to see how they work out. What are you running for upper mounts or are you making your own?

Edit: I see you already have upper mounts. Where did you source those from? And are they 4runner specific?

To answer your questions
1) Yes they are the 8" travel version, I will actually be removing the bump stop on the shock stanchion. These are the short bodied version of the 8125, and as per my measurement as well as consulting the guy who sold them to me (Certified Toyota Tech) the 14" 650lb is perfect for what I have. Even 16" would be pushing it because of the minimal amounts of preload I will be running, I have a tube front bumper, winch, hi-lift, soon running skid plates and the 4wd conversion will add some weight. I am looking for L.C.O.G. in addition to maximum travel without LT. This is my mid-travel overland build. In essence, less preload= some rake + stiff on the road + plush on the trail. Stay updated on this build to check it all out. I always measure 5 million times and do it once... there's even a slight chance of running 16", but that's a stretch!
2) The mounts came with the shocks when I bought them... they are the Dirt King Coil-bucket mount for the 03-09. I double checked and they fit! I also trust a Toyota technician that sold me these. Same bolt pattern!

Awesome! That's good to hear that they are the correct coils then. The reason I asked that question, and I'm sure you already know this, is typically coilovers require coils that are 2X length of shock travel +2". Are these on Bilsteins catalog at all? I was looking about a month ago at the 6" 46mm 8125's and didn't notice any short body options. Maybe just in the 60mm sizes only?
I am running the short body 7100's in the rear though and they are working great. I'll definitely be watching this build. Can't wait to see how it turns out.

I'll explain the method to my madness better! Collapsed length is 16" and Extended is 24". The 4Runner can handle around 20"-21" of extended length, that's absolutely maxed out. I will be running these limit straps at 10". Subtract total extended length on the 4Runner without stretching cv's from the total extended length of the 8125, and you have a 3-4" deduction in coil spring length! They don't make a 15" spring which is the absolute max it will handle. Therefore, running a 14" will be perfect in the 650lb rate to handle the weight of my bumper, winch, hi-lift, skids, etc. I don't ever plan on running a tube bumper so, 650lb is better than 700lb in my opinion.

I'll share a part number when I get the chance!

Sounds like a pretty solid plan. Is the 16" collapsed length eye to eye or including the upper mount? I'd just be worried about over compressing the shock at full bump with that long of extended length shock. If anything you can always raise the upper shock mounts to mount higher. I've been searching different shock dimensions for a while, trying to find the most bang for my buck. Here are specs that I have compiled for the front coilovers from different manufacturers.

I will actually be running the wheelers rubber bump stops, they're slightly extended and provide excellent control at full bump

Everything except for the springs!!!!

So close!!!
All necessary hardware with the exception of the springs have arrived! Very quick shipping, I opted to have the cheapest option for shipping which happened to be priority. 2 shipping days total.

Now onto reaming out the misalignment to get it to fit the lower shock bolt.

Where have I been?

Update: We had to make some modifications to the orientation of the female and male 90* fittings that I ordered from Eaton. Essentially I added a 90* pipe fitting -8S size onto the shock body and flipped the hose around so that the 90* female fitting went onto the reservoir.

The below pictures were the original orientation

s2.jpg
s4.jpg

This didn't lear the UCA so I went back to the drawing board....
s11.jpg

Shock Disassembly:
1:Remove the 3 hex bolts holding the piston dust cap on.
2:Depress the piston into the shock until the snap-ring is exposed.
3:Remove the snap-ring with a pick and pull on the shock shaft to remove from the shock body.
s5.jpg
s6.jpg
s7.jpg
s8.jpg
Reassembly: Follow the previous steps in reverse order.

Continuing

Reservoir Positioning:
-Finally got the correct pipe fitting in after several weeks of waiting.
-I could not for the life of me figure out how I would fit the reservoir... It's a big one.

More shots testing it out a bit.

Retrofits

I am more than likely going to get a bit of hate but..... Different strokes for different folks. :flipoff:

What I used:

I went with some projectors off of the budget build retrofit thread.
-Nilight Projectors 2.5"
-Innovated 5500k bulbs
-35W Ballasts (Upgrading to 55W)
-HID to H1 controller
-SuperbrightLED's 70mm & 80mm halo rings

End Result:
slfh1.jpgslfh3.jpgslfh7.jpgslfh13.jpgslfh15.jpgslfh19.jpgslfh20.jpgslfh21.jpg

Currently I don't have any output shots, but I will upload a few when I get some time on my hands.

Most current to date

So this happened....
slfht1.jpg

I love this tent! My girlfriend and I paid for 1 Tent, 1 annex, 1 awning, 1 LED camp light, and only paid $1275!!!!! She wanted in on it too, and I couldn't say no.

I ended up getting a second awning free because of a bit of a hiccup in the system when I ordered the tent. Needless to say 10/10 would recommend!

After setting up the tent, I went out for a hammer fest in my backyard
