In the good old USA it's a rich man's argument (comparing to the 3rd world) In third world' countries there are a lot of Toyota's driving around with tons of miles'with cheep oil. Just saying. You still have the right to do what's best when choosing oil.

Whatever oil a manufacturer used in the vehicle during emissions certification and fuel economy tests, the EPA requires that it be documented in the owners manual that same oil weight be used by the owner.

In other words, “you told us your truck gets 20 MPG and emissions don’t exceed xx ppm, etc. and we will certify those numbers and publish them. But you better do everything you can to make sure the truck owner uses those same weight oils.”

Let's not forget one huge thing here. Toyota does not make oil, never has, never will. ALL of their lubricants are rebranded from who knows who. Last I checked, Mobil made their engine oil. I don't know who makes their gear oil, antifreeze, transmission fluid, transfer case fluid. The only oil I plan to buy from the dealer is the proper 75W transfer case oil and transmission fluid when that time comes. Otherwise Mobil in the diffs, recently tried QSUD engine oil and I like it so far. All synthetic of course.

I ended up getting a one gallon sprayer at Home Depot this morning for $10. You don’t need to modify it at all to use as a fluid pump, just remove the spray nozzle for faster delivery. You can either clamp the hose or turn the relief valve to stop pumping. I replaced the black heavy duty tubing with 6ft of 1/4”ID 3/8”OD clear. Testing with water it pumped a liter in less than 30 seconds with 10 pumps.

Question: Did you run the clear hose all the way in to the bottom of the tank, or did you use the rigid plastic hose that came with it?

I used the rigid tubing inside the tank that came with it.
BTW. I did the Transfer Case on our RAV4 last weekend. It worked perfectly.
I set the “empty” level in my dispenser by filling with fluid and pumping it back into the bottle.
Then I added exactly what came out of the TC, only about 15oz.
I pumped this into the TC until empty. Nothing came out of the fill hole so I took a pic. Perfect level.
The waiting is the hardest part, took about 45 seconds in the 40° garage to pump the 1/2qt of fluid.

Got the rear done. Gear oil flows slow at 34 F. Think I need preheat it.

Alright, put Mobil 75w90 LS in front and rear differentials and Mobile Delvac 75w90 in transfer case. Had some 120K miles since the prior change. All fluids were clear and only slightly darker than the new. Garden sprayer pump set-up worked fine, but slow in the 34 F temp. I used 1/4 ID by 3/8 OD hose, but it took heating the ends in boiling water to get them onto the 3/8" ball valve. The picture in the post above looks like 3/8" ID hose.

Now you had me second guessing so I just double-checked. It’s 1/4id 3/8”od. I used a 3/8” ball valve, and yeah it was not easy getting the tubing over the barb.
Still beats the shampoo pump in my opinion.

It depends on how much you feel like your time is worth honestly. I think that’s on the cheaper end for what dealerships usually charge.

Now that I have kids, my time has more monetary value IMO. So what I used to love doing myself I’ll now consider paying for, under the right circumstances, to assure my time is better spent elsewhere. This may or may not apply to you but I think that pricing is pretty fair from a dealership standpoint. Much higher than doing it yourself but not the $300-$400 I’ve been previously quoted.

I'm doing mine myself and I paid $120 just for the fluids. i know the Toyota T Case fluid is WAY more expensive than the Royal Purple I'm using. if you're concerned about "Genuine Toyota" Fluid this seems like a fair price to me, but ill still save the $80 and do it myself.

I'd be willing to bet money that very few (if any) Toyota dealers in the US are using actual Genuine Toyota fluid for diff & t-case servicing by default. I know my dealer doesn't, or at least they didn't when I had them do the service on my previous FJ Cruiser. In fact if I remember correctly they told me they use the same bulk gear lube for all three.
