Front bumper replacement

Wife brought the car back to me like this today :\ Judging from the pic do you guys think it can pounded back in to shape? Or do I need a new bumper, and if so, can anyone recommend an inexpensive source for getting a good replacement bumper? BTW 2012 SR5

You could try to heat it up with a heat gun and press it back out. Definitely don't be "pounding" it out.

That is just the plastic cover. Take it off and try to push it from behind to get it back into shape.. might require some heat and will most likely never look perfect again.... but might be good enough.... Pretty easy to find used front bumper covers as most people chunk them when they get a plate bumper.

Agree on the heat gun. You should be able to push most of it out. There might be some creasing depending on how long it's been sitting like that

Heat her up and get some of it out it will look like crap though and never attach to the fender bumper mount correctly. But you need more than just a bumper repair the fender is also rolled inward slightly and there is probably more going on behind.

I bent mine is a similar fashion against a tree while off-roading. Tried to push and pound it out to no avail. A month or so later, once the July summer temps set in, I noticed one morning that it had corrected itself. Moral to the story is a heat gun will get it out. I would recommend working from the back side to avoid paint finish damage. Given that you are in NJ, you may need to wait until ambient temps climb to a level that you can get enough heat into the bumper cover. July temps around here are 100+.

Agree with the sound advise.... Take it off, Heat it up from the back side. You should be "pretty good" if not good enough... well...

check to make sure the plastic clips immediately below the seam between the fender and bumper skin aren't broken as well.

Thanks guys, used my heat gun, and got most of it corrected, unfortunately there are some nasty creases, and the paint is cracked, and it won't line up with the fender properly. I'm going to take a chance on of those eBay painted replacement bumpers for $400, they have a good return policy so it's worth a shot.

BTW, the worst part of having a car with a dent like this is all the freaks in minivans waving you down telling you that they can fix it for a hundred bucks

Boiling water fix

This is post is along the lines of temporary bumper repair.
Search "boiling water bumper repair " on YouTube .
If this technique works, it can be a quick fix until you decide on what you want you want to do.

Wow that hot water trick worked great! Too bad it's still won't line up with fender, otherwise I would have put some touch up paint on the scratches and called it a day.
