Front End Noise

Hi all,

I have 2010 Limited with a Bud Built winch bumper and winch along with 270 55 r20 BFG Rugged Terrain tires. I also have 170,000 miles on my car.

It rides great and seems fine on the highway and at most times. I do live in Michigan and our roads are the worst. I do seem to have a weird klunk when I hit bumps i.e. potholes. I'm not sure if it's just the stiff suspension or if I'm actually hearing something. I just had the brakes done and told the mechanics about it and they didn't hear anything when they drove it and didn't feel anything loose when they did the brakes and rotated the tires.

Am I being paranoid or is it the stiff suspension?

Thanks in advance.

Those are the worst kind of things to track down as sounds travel in funny ways through a vehicle. I had a clank that sounded like it was coming from the front. It was ultimately tracked down to a loose control arm in the rear.

Were any changes made to the truck just prior to the noise starting? Does the bumper have sufficient clearance that it's not impacting the body? I'm not sure about the Bud Built bumper but I know my ARB does require quite a bit of spacing or it will make contact on the front plastic panels as it shakes quite a bit over bumps. Have you verified the winch is still secure in it's mounting? I would suggest you go through and torque all of your front and rear suspension bolts. Could something be moving around in the vehicle like the bottle jack in the rear left panel? What about skid plates?

Good luck!
