Front License Plate mounting....?

A buddy of mine just got a 5th gen and wanted to mount a tag on the front but wanted to know if there is a mounting bracket for the front. I know there are the dimples, but before we drilled the holes i wanted to check with you guys. Thanks in advance.

Wow! YOU own a 4th with the v8 and YOU are friends with someone who own a 5th.....and you admit it, wow....thought that was just a myth that people like you existed To the best of my knowledge there is not a special mounting bracket, mine and all the others I have seen are just right in (with the dealer logo frame of course) My last SUV had a special mounting bracket because it was too curved to work well so I know what you mean.

No commercially-available brackets that I'm aware of. I mounted a ¼-inch plate to the dimple locations and then attached the Kommifornia-required front license to the plate.

Theres no known front tag frame specifically made for the 5th gen but what i used is a frame from a current Camry which fits the bumper curve of the 4R.Hope that helps.

My 5th came with the plates installed by the dealer. They had used 'sheet-metal' type screws (self-tapping) to mount the front plate, and used their standard 'with advertising' plate holder.

I did not like it, and decided to replace the plate holder with a more solid all-metal and chromed holder (I know, *more* chrome!).

The new holder had top as well as bottom mounting holes, and I wanted the screws/bolts to match top and bottom.... I got a set of 4 'standard' plate-bolts from the local automotive store (Canadian Tire).

I re-drilled, and tapped the bumper holes to take the bolt, instead of the self-tapper, and I used blue loctite (threadlocker) to hold the bumper-bolts in place. I did put a 1/8th inch rubber washer on between the bumper and the plate too.

I used the remaining 2 bolts to hold the plate to the frame at the bottom of the plate. I cut the bolts shorter at the bottom to make it neat (and also used the loctite).

I know this needs pictures... but at the time it seemed like a trivial 'mod'.

Front License Plate Bracket Option for 5th Generation

I purchased my T4R from a dealership out of state, which required only one license plate. My home state requires two, so like others I had to harness my OCD and drill into the bumper. I purchased a generic plastic mounting plate from the auto store ($5). I didn't care for the appearance of just the plate attached so I trimmed it out with one of the chrome plate covers ($10). I did have to use some metal shears and trim the plate down about a 1/8 to 1/4 inch on the top and bottom, but it's not noticeable. I did trim down the top mounting screws like ("mib" did in the above post) so they didn't go through bracket into the painted bumper cover. I also used stainless steel screws. For around $15 I found something which tied into the vehicle's stock appearance. Probably not an option for everyone, especially the anti chrome people, but it worked for my application.

Here is a photo of how I mounted my license to the front of my 2010 limited. Cut tag on band saw top and bottom, about a 1/4 inch and mounted with zip ties. I was asked to show photo but don't know how to attach to a pm? Hope this helps Anthony who asked for it.

Did kinda the same thing.....gonna post pics soon. I too cut the license plate, but from the bottom only. Too afraid to do top n bottom. Figured I was pressing my luck anyways. Used tie wraps as well.

Got mine registered today. Stopped by a dealer on the way home to see about a Camry bracket, but none in stock. Got some self tapping screws ready to go, just really don't want to drill into bumper.

Any updates on methods to avoid? For those getting a bracket, that still doesn't workaround an actual hole in the bumper, correct? It's just to have the plate not be resting on the bumper itself?

I just took 2 zip ties to the lowest spot on the bumper. Looks nice and clean, and when i go offroad, the license plate just folds flat under the truck. Lost a little paint on the license plate, and it's a little bent, but looks waaay better than being mounted up high. Can snap photos if you're interested.

I got a Shrockworks front bumper which is predrilled for the plate. Not drilling into plastic for me. LoL
