I put plenty around and in the hole. For those of you that do have a Front Runner rack, during the installation did you put silicone down the bolt holes as well? Tthe instructions just said to put it around them.
I just installed my rack and while it hasn't rained yet, I do have to remove it to install my expedition rail and was wondering if I should kill two birds with one stone.
I would, its engineered to use those front mounts and wouldn't risk it. The drilling sounds worse than it actually is. Just take your time and be careful not to go thru the headliner. I purchased a $40 rivnut tool from amazon, first time using one and got it right the first time.Do you need to secure the front mounts with a bolt?
For the owners that have the 3/4 size and a sunroof. Do you have an issue with air pushed in when you drive with the roof open? I was wondering if anybody removed the little fins at the bottom of the rack to let the air go between the rack and the roof versus pushing air in when the sunroof is open.
It is annoying and I am almost deaf of my right ear...
I have had my 3/4 rack for almost 3 weeks and I zero issue w/ noise w/ my sunroof open or closed.

Hey Chris,
Thanks for the reply. I was referring to air pushing back inside the cab through the sunroof when open. It seems that it is diverted back by the 2 fins at the bottom of the rack, if that makes sense

I am as asking about the 3/4 that sits behind the sunroof. It just seems that when the wind is facing, the amount of air pushed inside the cab, with an open sunroof, is ridiculous. I experience the same thing when it is tilted and not fully opened. I might experience by removing those little deflectors and see if it makes a difference in wind/noise and mlieage. Are you asking about the 3/4 rack (which sits behind the sunroof) or the extended version that overhangs the sunroof? I have the original 3/4 length and there is very little pushed back in. The noise I have noticed unloaded is about the same as when I had my Thule bars mounted. You definitely want the wind deflector on. They look small and useless but they do a great job in reducing the wind noise since the slats of the Frontrunner run perpendicular to the airflow.
Got mine installed, no pics yet, but this method worked perfectly!
Anyone fabricated a Gobi style wind deflector for their frontrunner full length rack?
I'm curious as well

I found that the Skybox 16 actually fits better than with the Thule Aerobars. It took about 5 minutes to get the clamps adjusted onto the right rails. The 2nd rail for the front grabs and 5th rail for the rear seemed to give the best fit and allow for the rear hatch to fully open. All that’s left is to see if there is a noticeable noise difference with the Skybox and Frontrunner as there was not much with the Aerobars.
Cymon I just scored a Skybox 21 and tried to test fit it but seemed like it wasn't going in. Did you have to move a slot around or do anything special to get it to fit? Also how good does it grab on? considering it's not all the way around the bar.
Yes, to get the fit the first time I had to leave the slots loosened to get the correct width. The way I found to work best is to set it on the rack in front of the bars you want to put it on and loosen the clamp adjusters almost all of the way (don’t loosen too far or the screws will come out and that is a PINTA). Then have the grab clamps open (folded forward so the grabs are fully open). Slide the clamps on and then tighten everything up. I can send pics once I get back as we are out of town at this point in time.
These are the best pics I have right now.
Thanks, I figured I had to loosen the slots. i would appreciate more pics if you can When you get back. and it doesn't get loose with it not being around all the way through?
