For those of you that have tinted your front windows to match the factory tint, what % did you go with? Im looking to get it done on Monday. Thanks for your help in advance.

Mine's 35%. Not a perfect match, but very close and enough so that I don't notice it, and legal in just about every state so I won't be hassled.

I did 20 on the front two and then 35 over the rest. I wanted it a little darker in the rear to make it harder to see things in the back storage area.

Most factory tint is 35% (at least in Washington - each state has different tinting laws I believe) so easiest solution would be to just apply a 35% film on the front two windows.

I too had another round of 35% applied over factory tint and 20% up front.
It's a very good match - have never been hassled by police as I am a bit darker than legal, but I too prefer having less visibility inside my rig for numerous reasons.

I went with 35% on mine, but it's a hair lighter than factory. I'd think 20% may be the magic number

20% on the front is going to be much too dark. The guys doing 20% up front also did 35% on top of the factory tint for the rest of the windows.
20% is about equal to factory + 35%.

I've always felt that is because the windshield, being untinted, allows a lot of light in hence the closest two windows (Fronts) have an appearance of being a hair lighter...

Thanks for all the replies. Looks like Ill be going with 30 or 35 on Monday. They were booked today at Shades of Grey and Im in no rush. They did my GTI and their work was high quality so Im definitely going back to them for round 2.

In my experience and per my tint guy, toyota factory rear tint (which is impregnated in the glass and not a film) is around 20%. The key to a good match is actually the color and metallic content. I had 20% on my tacoma double cab and it matched perfect.

I've had a lot of tinted vehicles over the years and all were technically illegal per my state's laws (32% for the front, no limit on the back) with the exception of my Tundra which was tinted by the toyota southeast at "port" and not per my request. Eventually I'll get the Tundra's front windows done darker in 20%.

I plan on doing my wife's t4r pretty soon in 20% on the front two windows.

The "darkness" of your tint will depend on your vehicle color and interior color. Darker interiors will make the tint appear darker.

I've tested the factory tint - It's 27-28%. 35% is the limit here in MA for other than factory tint.

30 percent is what mine was at when tested give or take. Then it got completely limo tinted out all the way around, No tint on the windshield

Nothing looks better then a limo tinted car :O)

FoxNJ I will be getting my front two windows tinted soon. Let me know what percent you end up getting and how it matches the factory. Maybe pics if possible?

I went with 20 percent and looking back i'm glad I didn't go 35 in the front. The front windshield lets in light that makes the front two look lighter, so it matches pretty well for me.

I have 20% on the front two windows and 35% on the windshield. From the side, everything looks very even.

I was planning on matching it but went with 30 instead of their suggestion of 20. Im happy with it but 20 would have matched better. When they metered the stock tint, it came in at ~26 and their 20 film actually meters 25. The picture makes the tint look darker than it really is.

Edit: why did my picture here and in the "what did you do today" thread flip itself?

Hey guys, I'm new here but I'd like to know if anyone knew of methods of getting illegal tint passed. I just had 20% put on my front windows to match the rear. I live in the Triad area of North Carolina if anyone knows of any shops that will pass it and look the other way. Tha

I went 20% fronts and another round of 35% over rear. Close match.

Live in WASHINGTON and have never been hassled as 35% is legal limit.

For that matter I've ran 20% on all on a previous car for 4 years in Cali where you cannot tint front windows.

Have never had an issue.

I've had 35% tint on the windshield of multiple vehicles over the last 10 years in NM, TX, NC, and now CO. Never once had an issue with law enforcement.

Before someone asks "Why would you tint the windshield?" I'll explain. With the 35% on the windshield my vehicle's interior is greatly protected from the sun's heat. I also never have to use the visor in my truck. If the sun is low and I'm facing it head on, a pair of sunglasses + the tint are adequate shading for me to drive comfortably. No, I do not have any issues seeing at night. If I had old, dim headlights then yes, it would probably be a concern.
