Fuel Sensor. A Cheap Do It Yourself?

I'm trying to replace my sensor right now. Very fustrating. How do you removal the sensor harness without breaking it? Seriously seems like someone superglued it.
 
yeah whatever helps you get it off. These plugs can be a pain sometimes. Once you get it off you'll see how it works and it will be easy from then on. I forget which way you have to push/pry but you should be able to get it with your fingers.
 
Thanks for the help. What is the best tool to get the sensor itself out. I have a wrench set but I don't think thats the right tool for the job.
 
Does your sensor have the two nuts or is it the type that the whole sensor unscrews? You may need an O2 sensor socket or a big pair of pliers.
 
12mm wrench, take the two nuts off and pull the sensor out of the bung. If it's a little stuck tap on it with your wrench to loosen it. You have a new one so no worries about messing up the old sensor.
 
Seriously, I think that wiring harness is glued or something. No matter what I do, I can't get it apart. If I could I would be finished.
 
I give up. Can't get it off no matter what I do. I'll leave it to a professional and just take it to my mechanic when I get some extra cash.
 
Yeah it should be pretty cheap for a mechanic to do since I have the part and they should know a better way to disconnect the harness.
 
Well I did it. I kept pulling and pulling and finally was able to disconnect the wiring harness. But I did break the piece that the harness is attached to. Other than that, no more CEL and my fuel mileage should improve to how it used to be.
 
Cool, glad you got it. Too bad it turned out to be such a pain. It shouldn't be that hard but sometimes thats the way it goes.

So what part did you break? The locking tab part?
 
Yeah it took 3 days to finally get it off. Such a pain. I thought unscrewing the sensor from the exhaust manifold was going to be the hard part but that was super easy. I broke off the piece where the wiring harness stays attached to the side of the transmission. I think thats what its attached too. Now the wire and harness hang a little lower than usual but I dont think its a big deal.
 
As long as no wires are touching the exhaust you should be fine. Maybe you can zip tie the wires back up to the broken bracket.

Once you got it off I bet you could tell just how that locking tab worked!
 
Yeah, the wires are not touching the exhaust at all. I was thinking about duct taping them so they dont hang as much. Ha, yeah, I think me breaking the part where the harness was attached to helped me unlock the harness because i was able to get my pliers in there to hold down the locking mechanism while I pulled.
 
Now time to clean MAS (mass airflow sensor) and TB (throttle body) for the best results, easy as pie and well worth the time and $$$. May wish to consider a new fuel filter as well, these improvements made a world of difference for me; no more CEL's and vastly improved mpg.
