GA dealer has bar bones 4cyl 5th Gen

for what its worth, i think this is the most stripped down 5th gen anyones ever gonna see
check out the shifter and the 4 cyl body style

Well, the body style could be a lot worse, but it looks like what it's supposed to look : a cheap SUV.

2.7l to carry around all that weight, and only offered with a slushbox and 2wd.

Not much appeal...

That is one rare 4Runner! I'd guess you could buy it for 23-24 grand.I personally think that exterior body style is the best of the 3 with the color keyed mirrors and door handles.

Hmm... They list it as an SR5 but, correct me if I am wrong, that has the 'Trail' version front and rear bumpers, but they are color matched, not the black like on the v6 version?!

it is the body style of the 4 cylinder model, which is different from both the SR5/Limited and the Trail body style. For what its worth, I dont think it looks any worse than the color matched, though it is cheaper to have black plastic than the color matched parts. I wouldnt mind driving a 4 cylinder to see what its like, I have driven a 4 cylinder highlander and it wasnt as bad as I thought it would be. Still, the 4runner is heavier and it really seems like they know its going to be a true bare bones offering, good for fleet and similar jobs

From what I can see they are the same bumpers as the Trail, just color matched:

You really notice it when you paste the images on top or each other, they only thing that changes is the color! Physically they are the same, however there does seem to be a small difference with a couple aesthetic lines within the bumper.

which might mean that you can order mudflaps that will fit the 6cyl sr5 and limited, since the trail ones dont fit

I think you will run into the same issue trying to buy the 4 banger mud flaps as you will with the trail edition, they are integrated into the unpainted wheel arches.

Just go to your local autoparts place buy some generic rubber mudflaps screw them into the plastic wheel well and be done with it. You will not have to worry about rust and they are easy to remove that way. In the front there are even bolts already there you can use to attach your mudflaps. I will post photos of mine later.

There are 3 different and distinct front and rear bumper covers as war07eagle has stated .The 4cyl and SR5/Limited bumper covers are 1 piece.The TE bumper covers are each 2 piece with the extra black parts on the front and rear being separate parts and held on by bayonet clips.The USA 4cyl body style is the same as the SR5 V6 in Canada except the Canadians get the running boards too.

True that you will run into the same issues, however they are not integrated but separate pieces that clip and bolt on and they are textured instead of smooth.

Those are the PIAA fog lights I bought last week and wondered how they would look.I am waiting for them to get here. I bought the PIAA 510 Fogs with the Ion Crystal yellow bulbs and going to mount them right where you put them. At least until ARB or Shrockworks make a front bumper and that will probably be awhile.

Yep ,The 4 cyl get the SR5 rims since it is a SR5 but with skinnier 245/70/17 tires.

I believe the TE and the 4cyl SR5 have the same bumper cover. The TE just has a 2nd cover over the center section, as Harper said. This is what I gathered from the TIS anyway. The 4 cyl SR5 shares the body w/ the canadian SR5... My personal opinion is that it looks quite good. It has the old "rugged" look of the 3rd gen.

As far as mud flaps, a guy in the Blizzard Pearl has mud flaps on his SR5. They seem to fit the bumpers properly. I don't know where he got them, though.

Damn, I sure hope Toyota makes some upgrades to the front & rear end of the 5th gen. I've been waiting for the styling to grow on me, but it hasn't so far.

I don't hang out in any section. When I come to the forum, I hit the "new posts" button and read them. I've never actually gone to the 5th gen forum specifically.

But either way, don't take anything personally. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. You may see the 5th gen as beautiful, but I think of it as, well, lets just say less than beautiful. To each his own, right?

4cylinder spec on bumpers, fender flares, mudflaps, doorhandles, mirrors and roof racks looks just right in contrast of body color vs black plastic for this generation, imo. Sounds like there are a few people who feel the same way from the various posts. If SR5 V6's were specced like this I think there would be greater appeal and folks leaning towards buying this more 'rugged' model.

The 4cyl may be stripped as we put it, but really. basic spec sheets today would have been considered well appointed not so long ago. For the price its alot of car and doesnt look stripped at all. Compare with the early 3gen base models with the thin fender extensions, narrow wheels etc, those really looked like base models. Only our trained eyes can tell this one apart from a TE without a second glance.

I actually did the exact opposite. Once I saw official pics of the 2010, I went looking for a new 2009 on the dealers lots. Unfortunately, not a lot of 2009 models were produced, so I wasn't able to find what I wanted (4wd Sport Edition in black). So now I'm just hoping that the inevitable mid-cycle refresh makes the new models more attractive. Maybe by that time I'll be ready for a new one again. If not, I'm probably jumping ship to another brand.
