Gas Can On Roof Anyone?

So Im not really sure if its a good idea or not...or safe...but I want a spill proof gas can to put on top of my roof rack for road trips when I drive to college in AZ from LA and back (600 miles each way). Never run outta gas before but dont want to get stuck in the desert if I miss a station.

Anyways, Im strongly considering getting one of these (see link at bottom of post). Probably the 1.25G but might go with the 2.5G. I have a roof rack to mount it on so it wont be inside the vehicle. Also, this one is spill proof so I dont have to worry about it leaking on my roof and it looks super easy to pour into my gas tank, plus the lady in the video is kinda hot.

So is this a good one to get? Im a college student and do not want a fancy gas can. This is about $20 or $23 shipped depending on which size I get. I like the lower profile design of the 1.25G which is why I am leaning toward that one but thinking of going with the 2.5G one for only a few bucks more. Also, I researched it a bit and something about venting, or expanding in the heat might be a problem? So should I get the 2.5G one but only fill it with 2 gallons to leave room for expansion or something? This would not be on my roof full time, mainly just on road trips. Im either going to get one of these or not one at all since I dont want to spend more than $25, so no need to post suggestions of heavy duty tanks that cost more.

Seems...unnecessary. I'm all for preparedness, but I make that same drive a few times a year and have never ran short on fuel. I keep an empty can in the back of my 4runner where ever I go, but have never felt the need to strap extra fuel on the roof.

If you really want one, and for a bargain go to walmart or somewhere similar and get one of the standard ones they have, especially if you are strapping it to the roof. If you screw the lid on right they wont spill and they wont cost you $20.

One other concern is if you are driving in the summer. The hot heat will make relieving pressure in the can an issue, even if you only fill it up partially. Gas evaporates very fast.

That can also looks like a pain in the ass to use compared to a normal one. Remember, your fill spout isn't a vertical hole on the runner, it's at an angle, with the vehicle in the way. It will work, but I don't see you getting all of the fuel in the can, to the vehicle.

Fuel on the roof, even a little plays a big role in your vehicles center or gravity as well.

"No Spill Jill" sounds like a horrible name for a lady.
