Gauge info display different..?

I was arguing with the search engine about trip display. Anyways, the photos I see for all what sites claim to be the 5th gen 4runner info display on the gagues are different than mine. Mine has that stupid eco bar on it all the time.

Am I missing some settings? Not quite sure what to search for in here as I keep getting scan gauge results in return.

If I can turn this stupid eco mode bar off, that would be great, its annoyingly distracting while driving to be honest.

Tough to search for this, because it returns results for the eco light, which I turned that dumb thing off already.

I don't care for the eco bar either, but it's easy to ignore. And it turns off whenever the cruise control is used. Since I live in a very rural area, the cruise control is almost always on.

Mines on all the time. I don't recall it turning off when the cruise was on for 3 to 4 hours yesterday.

Just annoying to try and find info on stuff and it feels like all the stuff you search up shows completely different systems.
At least I finally found the effing trip odometer. I didn't see the button, cause most newer vehicles have it all on the steering controls.

Alright, thanks for the info that it's not something you can turn off. Would be nice though. Just not really a useful feature whatsoever.

Now to work on the radio random restart stuff. ugh. now that stuff makes 0 sense.

The display doesn't turn off when the cruise control is on. Just the moving bar disappears and there's no movement.

I come from an era when there was no such thing as a resettable trip odometer, except on some high end cars. The vast majority had a long push button poking out from the gauge face and out any plastic lens to reset. And so do our 4Runners.

Tap the long plastic button protruding from the bottom right part of the clear plastic covering the gauge cluster to change between trip odometers 1 and 2. Long press to reset.

Yeah, I found it over there. For some reason I never noticed it. All the new vehicles have it in the controls which threw me off.

My first car didn't have a re-setable odometer, but I can't remember if any of my others did or did not. Actually, I think a few of them didn't now I think about it.

I got older and got much more stringent on my oil change intervals and the odometer made it really easy. Reset on oil change, change when it his numbers.

Trips me out these things take ... 0w20 I think it is. just seems ... weird. At least it wont be 120 dollar plus oil changes like my truck.

The eco bar can be turned off with carista. I used their dongle and software to do it. Along with some buzzers and other program bits that toyota should have made available.

Oh thats great to know.

That's the app thing that lets you turn some of the features on and off that seem to be .. disabled, right?

Yes. You have to pay either monthly or annual subscription to use the programming features. But once the changes are made they're sticky. So no need to pay beyond one month.

it is possible to turn the eco bar off with carista app, few custom mods can be done with that

Me too. The long reset button was so easy and bulletproof, I can see why manufacturers got away from it and added complication.

Read your manual!
One can turn off the ECO bar with the settings for the center display, not the infotainment screen, just to clarify.

EDIT:

Turning Off the ECO Indicator on a 5th‑Gen 4Runner

On most 5th‑gen 4Runners (2010–2024), you can disable the green ECO light by using the Multi‑Information Display (MID) settings — not by changing drive mode — and the exact steps vary slightly by model year.

Method 1 – Use the Multi‑Information Display (MID) settings

  1. Access the MID menu
    • Press the DISP button on the steering wheel (or the display control knob) until the instrument cluster’s multi‑information display appears.
    • On some years, you can also press the MENU button on the steering wheel and scroll to Settings or Meter Settings.
  2. Find the ECO indicator option
    • Scroll through the menu until you see Eco Driving Indicator Light or Eco Light.
    • Select it and choose Off.
    • The ECO light will disappear from the dash.
  3. Confirm and exit
    • Press DISP again to return to normal display. The ECO light should remain off until you re‑enable it.
