Fyi Just sharing I just found out this week Cbi makes a new ( to me anyways ) they call it the "hybrid " bumper it looks very minimal and to me is exactly what I was hoping to build myself one day but now has been done and only 800$ for the base model and like 1399 with swing out carrier etc looks light weight unlike every other 4th gen rear they always look so bulky , anyways just thought I'd share here's link ,

So did you get a 4th gen?

I don't think that would look bad if they skinned it with like 12g plate or something thin to keep the weight down but give it the look of a plate bumper. As it stands, I wouldn't buy as well.

I would be very interested in the bumper if it used the first model displayed in the link you shared. With the tubing used for the swing out. I would also want the hitch to still be able to be used as a weight distribution hitch. If he can do that, he can mock it on my truck (spare car), and I'd be first on the list.

This is very much in the conception stage, so don't get your hopes up yet. O spoke briefly with Pelfreybuilt and they agreed to entertain the idea of doing some rear bumpers if we could garner some interest and secure a 4runner in the San Diego area for fitment.

Step 1: Is there anyone who would be willing to swing by their shop so they could take a look at the rear bumper/crossmember?

I think it's gonna come out really well from the design ideas we talked about, and thanks man. I can't wait to see the rear finished.

I'll plunk down money for a bumper ASAP as long as it

a) looks good, matches body lines
b) Doesn't compromise my towing capabilities (I tow a 5k lb travel trailer)
c) Offers tire carrier
d) Is priced reasonably

I don't like the looks of anything out there thus far, and the towing compromises aren't well defined with the existing models.

The Pelfreybilt Tacoma bumper looks great, I'm very interested.
