Gen 2 Xb headlights is out already!!!

Thanks for the info the help. I figured everything out. I found a ground connection that I never really touched was loose. Tighten that up and that took care of the battery issue. Unfortunately because of it I had to buy a new battery. As for the ABS, traction control, and the multi terrain light, it was because I had the DRL fuse head plugged into the side heating mirror like the instruction and video said. Instead removed it and put it in the injector slot and now have no problem. The DRL isn’t working but it seems like a common problem with DRL harness they gave. Will contact Morimoto for technical support

Final update. After a nightmare of a start to the install and blown fuses and electrical shorts and and crap, I finally got everything working as advertise including the DRL. Headlight revolution install video on YouTube wants you to put the fuse tab in the side mirror head slot. I would not suggest that cause it cause a short on my rig and also caused the ABS, traction control, mulit terrain light all to come on including the airbag light. Stick with the Morimoto instruction by installing it in the INJ slot. If you have raptor lights in that slot you might want to relocate that to the side mirror heat slot instead and see if it works for you. The DRL harness I received upon further inspection of it had an actual pinch under the sleeve of the wire. I was able to repair it and put heat shrink wrap on it and it took car of the problem. Let see how these guys do from this point on.

Little update, got the gen 2 morimoto’s in a couple days ago. Install was an absolute breeze. Compared to my HID kit these are leaps and bounds better. I can only imagine the improvement over the stock headlights. So far everything is working smoothly and based on pics I’ve seen, and they definitely fixed the side output issue. So far very happy.

Like others have mentioned, keeping an eye on the potential DRL issue (top corners of DRL diodes burning out). I know me and a few others on here had that issue with the Gen. 1.

Has anyone gotten them to replace their gen 1 with a gen 2 via warranty?

After slightly passing the year mark, the DRLs on my gen1s just started flickering on the driver's side. Passenger side top corner LED appears to be out. Called for warranty asking about gen2 availability and tech support said they will replace with gen2 units as I was going to buy the gen2s and sell the new replacement gen1 units if they weren't going that path. Will see what happens tomorrow.

For those who went from gen1 to gen2, did you reuse the gen1 DRL harness and kept it tapped into mirror heater fuse slot or did you all move it to the Injector slot?

So to answer my own question...

The new Gen2 DRL harness/fuse tap comes with 2x 10A fuses whereas the older harness was 1x 10A and 1x 3A. I didn't feel like running the new DRL harness as they looked identical so I just swapped out the 3A with the 10A fuse. Although I feel like moving the fuse tap over to the injector slot could create a stalled motor situation if the fuse(s) go out, that's what the manual calls for. Not sure of the reasoning behind this change but I'll take it up with Morimoto if my fears come true.

Just purchased this set from Lightwerkz in NJ and had them install it. Everything went very smoothly and we also used the INJ fuse for the Harness.

Can be purchased here and if you're in NJ Installation is available

Just for comparisons sake, I had 50watt morimoto HIDs with the 50watt ballast. The high wattage made the projector bowls cloudy/burnt out and really decreased output over the years. Its a 2016 with over 160,000 miles so definitely got some mileage in the lights.
When the setup was new, it was really bright and lit up the road and everything else which in turn blinded everyone :)

Lightwerkz did a test on the old housings + my bulbs and got a reading of 92 lux. Putting my bulbs into a brand new oem toyota 4runner housing netted 156 with the same bulb. 70% increase! This confirmed my suspicions and since I needed to get new headlights anyways I got the GEN 2 morimoto lights.

Food for thought:
OEM NEW headlights with halogen bulb: 126 lux

OEM New headlights with 35w hid bulb: 266 lux (more than 2x brighter than
oem stock)

XB Gen 2 headlights: 440 lux (3.5X brighter than oem stock)
I have attached some pictures and a link Lightwerkz made to showcase the lights.

Great post! Pictures with the trees in the background helps a lot to give people an idea of how it looks in reality. Watched the video you linked and do wish your shop covered the turn signals to see how it looked when activated. I believe there's two options for the turn signals if I'm not mistaken? First one is straight up blinking while the second option is to have a sequential-style blinking. Which one did you go with?

I have nothing to add to your post here but I just wanted to give you compliments on the Voodoo avatar you have there - the G2 headlights look amazing with Voodoo paint. Rest assured if I saw you on the road, I'd be flailing with my arm out the window giving you thumbs up as a nod that I dig your 4Runner!!

I did sequential. There's some other videos on youtube that show it.

Was just thinking "wow those lights and the darker housing looks hot on a black rig" right before I saw this post in the thread. :)

Thanks for adding those awesome comparison pictures. How do you like the beam pattern cutoffs for the G2 lowbeams vs the HID setup?

It was actually my pictures. The light is so much more focused and Intensity was great. Worth the upgrade for the people that care about lighting.

4Runner Morimoto XB Headlights

To all that are thinking of purchasing Morimoto XB headlights DONT. These headlights are junk and you will not be satisfied with them, I have had to replace them six times over the last 13 months with DRL issues and upgrades.Problem is every time i have them reinstalled it costs me 85 to 100 Dollars to reinstall them. Save your money and avoid these headlights.Very disappointed after going thru this mess on my 2020 TRD PRO

Holy crap, 6 DRL failures? That's a first for me, although have you received a set of the Gen.2 XB LED headlights? I have heard there were issues with the DRLs on the Gen.1 sets but Morimoto reviewed the issues and resolved them in the Gen.2 models. The Gen.2s have been out for a little bit now and reports have been rock solid with very minimal failure ratings, it truly has been a drastic change! Sorry to hear on the previous issues my man. :ohwell:

Mine gen 1 went out too. How is your Gen 2? Any issues so far?

No issues at all. I'm really enjoying the nightly drives with the Gen2 lights due to the improved beam pattern. If you're due for an RMA, I highly recommend getting rid of the Gen1s for that reason alone.

Here are some pics of gen1 (top) vs gen2 (bottom) below in case you missed the comparison in ForRun's thread.
