General Grabber AT2 on a T4R

Update on the tires after more than 1k miles.

I recently noticed that I'm getting a vibration around 50-60mph in the morning. I decided to check the tire pressure before leaving for work and it was 30psi on all tires. The first and last time I checked was after the installation which is 35psi. It got a bit colder the fast month so the pressure went down. Anyway, I increased the pressure to 38psi. I haven't felt it since.

CannondaleMan, if you drive with the windows and sunroof open, you don't need to worry about the tire noise.

I'm still undecided on the lift :awais:
 
any updates on the tires? Seems like you are one of the few using. They seem like a cheaper alternative to the bigger brands. Have you taken them offroad yet?
 
It's been a while but it only has about 3k on it so I don't have much update, wife likes to drive the MINI more...

Hardly tested in snow being in south jersey. Never experience any problem in heavy rain. Noise is still the same as when I first had it, it's not that bad really. It's the rattle and squeaks inside the cabin that irritates me.

If you can consider Pine Barrens and Wharton here in NJ as off-roading (just sand, sand and more sand) then it's been off-roaded :D, no problem even in deep dry sand.

Not bad. Did not really got to thoroughly test it's capabilities in deep snow though. How I wish NJ get more snow :D

Did you see any snow? Are they worth saving the extra bucks?

I did got to use it in snow and ice and it was way better than the dunlops. I never experienced any sliding like I did with the dunlops.

Right now I could say that it's worth it but I only put about 7-8k miles into it yet.
 
but the snow experience was not really that deep, like pathetic 2-4 inches. I guess it was ice that I could give this tire some credit.
 
Hey guys just thought that I would add my 2 cents. I also have the grabber at2's I have had them on for about on for about 3 months. My parents have them on their 4runner for about a year. In the snow and rain they have great traction. They are studable for winter. Though I didn't have them studed. As far as noise goes you can definitly notice it, though it is not bad. I mostly hear it when I am coming to a stop. So far both my parents and I have nothing really bad to say about them. They do drop your gas milage a little. I have to say though compared to the stock tires I would not trade them for anything. I did have a problem locating a set since most places are back ordered. But I finally got them. I have had the bfg's and their is no real difference in my eyes.

I still have the T4R and it's still the same old tire, AT2.

I guess I've put around 35k miles on it and I still don't see any reason to replace it. Still looks good. Still handles snow and ice like it was new. With what new jersey been getting lately and with the snowstorms last year, definitely worth my money.
 
I bought a set of 265/70/16's for my 3rd gen this summer.

I like them a lot, especially for the price. They work good in snow and as well as can be expected on ice and I've only gotten stuck once with them and that was tonight when the ice broke and my back tire ended up in a hole.

I notice a little bit of noise, but it doesn't bother me and I don't like my music loud and quite often just listen to talk radio.

Old thread, i know. But i wanted to see how these are still holding up. Was this a deep tread tire or shallow like nitto's? Thanks for the info.

Deep threads and they are still deep... put about an additional 5k miles in it since I last posted and I notice some changes since then. It has gotten a bit noisier which is not a problem to me anyway. It started to shimmy at 60-65mph but I discovered while washing it that one of the tires lost 2 pieces of those ballast (wheel weight balance?)... I guess time to get it re-balanced. But I don't still see it getting replaced anytime soon, well, I hope, because the price has increased at tirerack, from $101 when I got it, now it's $167!
 
I have lost some faith in these tires, I put a rock through the tread of one of mine (bought last August) the other day. I was driving on a dirt road.

It's sent off for retreading, I was told it couldn't be patched.

I would get another set for winter tires, but I am not confident with these on rocky surfaces.
 
Dam i was looking at these also. 705 for them to be installed balance alligned. Hmm I may go with them, im also looking at Bridgstone Dueler A/T for 765.42 Completely Installd Balanced
 
Well after 45k miles, the rear tires started making tapping noises and after further inspection the treads are really low, penny test shows Lincoln's head... and there are like two lumps which I think are making the tapping noise... anyway, decided to replace one tire and use the spare which is still new tread wise which I did not include in the rotation. I initially plan to replace the front before winter but...

Having only two new tires in the rear was not my first time doing but first time for an SUV. I really can feel the difference. Highway roads that are not flat can push the driving direction to the left or right. Road bumps and potholes can be scary. So I'm now getting the rest of the tires replaced. Still sticking with this tires.
 
Clem thanks for all the updates here they were really helpful. I just purchased the stock size of these from STS white letters out, hopefully ill have fun with them. I'm in central NJ so hopefully we'll be safe and have some fun when the snow and rain really starts to hit.

I think with everything it cost me 900 out the door.
