Getting Bilsteins today...Question..

Getting my adjustable 5100's installed today and trying to decide two things..

All 4 corners? Planning to set the front at .85 to level it out a bit. Next question is what tire size. My T4r is a daily driver and I'd really like to not kill the MPG too bad. I'm looking to make it more aggressive looking, and fix the handling/dive..

265/275 or 285? What do you guys think?

I had 5100s installed on all four corners. For me, the 5100s were intended to stiffen the ride a bit, get rid of the body roll in corners and reduce nose dive upon braking. The leveling effect was an added bonus. I think that to get the most out of the better ride that the 5100s provide, you should get all four.

I kept the OE tire size but did get more aggressive AT tires. I don't know if you can do 275 or 285 without a true lift or other modifications.

GMo, I thought the 1.75 setting was to level it out, I could be wrong. .85 was pretty much the same height that its set at now with stock.

I haven't slapped the 5100's on my truck yet, but I went with duratracs 265. I think the only real option (in terms of aggressive tire) in 275 are BF ATs?

I agree with this. I set mince to 1.75 and it leveled it out. I don't think .85 is going to level it.

1.75 will level it more than .85 but if you put anything in the back and fill up your tank.. or sit some people.. you're going to be nose high..

your choice

I think but not possible, a member added 5100 in rear and i thought he measured and it added a 1/2 inch. that might help with the 3rd notch setting upfront and making the rear an inch higher ...

Did you switch out the springs as well, or leave them stock?

How much did the shocks and the install cost you?

It's an ongoing "debate"...

.85 or 1.75 to level...Everyones idea of level is different. Some see level from the frame, which means the front fender will be lower than the rear. Some see level from the fenders, which means the frame will not be level (front higher)...If you haven't noticed already, the wheel wells are not the same. The front is slightly lower than the rear.

If you don't want to kill mileage, stay with stock tire size.

Went with .85 vs. the 1.45 setting. Basically at 1.45 when you loaded up the back with gear or people, the ass sags just a little. .85 keeps a 1" or so rake and when loaded, truck still looks level. Ran the 285/70/17 BFG T/A's. Only slight rub on the drivers side splash guard at .85, and only while reversing and turning. Dremeled off a small piece and all is good.

First impressions? Bilstiens are how the SR5 should have come. I know I traded some luxury items for a softer ride, and this fixed that. Little to no nose dive now, even under hard breaking. Truck feels connected to the road. Body roll is better, and will be great when I switch to TE sways. Ride height is perfect. Tires make it look aggressive, instead of like soccer mom mobile. Well worth the money, IMHO!

This is my first post, but I have been reading the forum for some time now. This topic is of interest to me. GMo, did you do the rears also??

Hey guys, Fellow SR5 owner here too... I'm really thinking about putting the 5100's on too. The ride just feels too unstable for me. I have a '10 Ram 1500 too (which I drive when not with the fam). The Ram handles like a dream in comparison. When we go for camping trips its the T4R we take. The ride I'm getting now just feels SO unstable. I have Michelin Latitude Tours on.

For the guys that have the 5100s on: does the ride feel more secure to you in wind (and overall)? I've been an Expedition owner before the 5th Gen, and have never been blown all over the road the way I am with the T4R (the rig feels boatlike in the wind). Also, has anyone tried the Bilstein BST HEAVY DUTY shocks? How do they compare to the 5100's?

Thanks in advance
Love the rig, but would like to make the handling the best i can.

Note this post by harper7 from a thread discussing the compatibility of the TE sway bars with the SR5 or LE. You may have to wait until beefier aftermarket sways become available.

Just saw that. I can hold out till some good aftermarket ones show up. The bilsteins made such a difference. It's like completely different vehicle. I did the adjustable's up front and the rears as well. Amazing.

Look above. A million times more secure. No sway. No wobble. Amazing.

That's Exactly what I wanted to hear! I can live with any other shortcoming on the T4R besides this one. I just put an order on the 5100's through shockwarehouse. Are there any tricks to installing? After reading above; I think I will go with the .85 adjustment. Any tricks to the install, or is it pretty simple?
