Gibson exhaust on 4th gen, who's got it?

I posted my review on another thread, but thought it might be better to mention here with an update.
Yesterday, I had the side dual sport installed on my V8. It sounds awesome but was too loud; way louder than my Borla. Droned like crazy at all speeds. It seems to be quieter after about 50 miles on it, so hopefully it just needs to be broken in.
The other issue is it is near impossible to get lined up without touching something. The clamps kind of suck.
I took it to a good exhaust shop (I know the owner) and he looked at it himself. He said the design doesn't fit the vehicle right. There was no way, with the bends, to get it so it won't touch. He ended up having to cut some pipe out, re-weld, and weld on new hangers and extend some hangers.
Since the fix, it seems quieter, but I haven't got on the highway yet.

Dont be worried. I had the single straight back non SS on my V8 4Runner for 8-years before it needed to be replaced. I just replaced it a few months ago with the single straight back Gibson again.
Great muffler and great sound. Im in the NE as well :thumb3:

I sent you $377.98 via paypal the 15th. I Sent you a text on the 20th, and the 22nd asking for an update, I also left you a voicemail yesterday Jun 24. If you're having issues with anything please just let me know whats going on... trying to be patient here. I installed the stainless, dual side exit Gibson system on my 2006 V8 on Saturday.
The system does not seem to be formed correctly for this truck. I had to remove my trailer hitch because the tips hit it still working on a solution there. In order to get the over axle pipe off of the crossmember, the tips have to be rotated to a really weird angle. I will be taking another look at it this week with fresh eyes. I threw the junk saddle clamps in the trash and bought some stainless band clamps.
The sound is great, until you floor it. Then it whistles.
All told, I should have spent the extra money on the Magnaflow system.

Any updates on this? Curious if you got the issues resolved. I had a Gibson exhaust on the 2000 V8 Explorer I had prior to my 4Runner and had an extremely hard time preventing it from rubbing, and also needed to take it to a local shop to expand one of the joints because it wasn’t big enough for a proper slip fit. In the end I loved the sound, but could never get to not rub on the right rear load leveler (coil over type) shock. I’m considering getting one for the runner, but I’m concerned that it will interfere with my trailer hitch which I need, and would not sacrifice!
No resolution yet. I have been working with the seller (realtruck.com), but have gotten nowhere. Gibson maintains that the system may have to be modified to fit, which I find completely unacceptable. My mechanic spent two hours under it last week and came to the same conclusions as me. Rebend some pipes, or cut and weld. The rear hanger does not even fully engage in the rubber.
My only option for the hitch is to notch the side plate several inches for clearance. I will still be able to tow, but I doubt that the hitch will still be good for the 7700# it was designed.
My advice. Stay away.

I am looking for an exhaust for my 06 V8 Limited, with tow hitch..
With what I am reading and..
The Gibson website for the 618816 states - Footnote: Will not fit the Limited Model
I think I'll go with the Gibson single and have the shop bend the end of the exhaust to the side.
But which one.. 618815 (new) or 618708 (old) ?

Sorry fellas, have been behind the past few days. I know these systems like the back of my hand and have been selling Gibson for 4Runners for about 10 years.
The PROBLEM is, many bigger vendors don't specialize in 4Runners and have no close what fits or doesn't when you need help. The other issue is old stock sitting in warehouses for years. Gibson has updated the same part numbers over the years to make for better fitment, but if you had an old stock/older system, that might be why.
I know what fits which years, and sometimes the manufacturers don't even know since these systems are older. I just know these trucks, and when someone orders, our site makes them specify the year of the truck, etc.
