Gibson exhaust on 4th gen, who's got it?

My system shipped directly from Gibson. If it were old stock, it is Gibson's fault for shipping it. Regardless, they should have stood by it.

I spent a bunch of time with the seller and Gibson, through email and on the phone. I offered to take the truck to a shop of their choosing for evaluation, but they said they only sold to distributors and didn't know any local shops.
This after another rep told me he sells a ton of these to installers in PA.
Gibson's only solution was for me to purchase a straight out the back pipe and tip from them for about $150. I've wasted enough money on this. I will never buy their product again, not will I suggest that anyone else.

For the $120 I saved, I should have gotten Magnaflow.

I wanted to hold off on adding pictures until the situation was finished. Here is how the side exit came out on my 2006. Also shown is the notch I had to take out of my hitch to clear the tips.

Looks good. I'm assuming that you were able to finally resolve the rubbing issues? You may want to add something to that hanger though to make it more secure.

I picked up a SS Gibson from Jason awhile back and was waiting to install as the stock exhaust was still good at the time. Bought with Thorley headers which are as yet uninstalled. My local muffler shop installed for $120. Truck has skids from engine to T-case and I asked them to turn out the single tip to the side. They turned it out and welded the chromed tip on the end. I might have liked that not welded, but it's water under the bridge. I'll try to remember to add a pic.

After a little over a week of driving with it:

Wife likes and approves. Says truck sounds "Much better, sounds like a TRUCK now!"

The often observed 1900-2100 drone is there. An issue I notice in the 68-73 MPH range

It took me about a week to get my foot back to normal. That will likely change again when windows down season begins. Same thing happens for my Harley.

In person it looks like crap. The hanger isn't going anywhere. Shame it doesn't fit as it should though.

Glad to help ya out. You can install this yourself, but when you have a lift of course it's much easier.

When you get the headers on it will smooth things out even more. Another tip, when installing, start from the REAR first and work your way up, with the last thing being installed being the muffler. This makes it easier.

Greetings all. I have an 07 sport v6 4wd. I installed the Gibson exhaust with the black tip exiting straight out the back. It was fairly easy of a job. Sounds good. A little bit of drone but it doesn’t bother me. A couple things tho. The tip seems to fit closer to the bumper than the stock exhaust. Also they sent two extra pipes that I assume are for the v8. The bolts that come with it don’t include the tension springs which one my old ones were rusted. Are they needed? And should there be a gasket from the header pipe to the cat? Any help is appreciated.

I have the Gibson elite black exhaust dual, love how it looks, fits “ok” does rub but I’ve remedied it. However another worse problem now what am I suppose to do about the “whistle/whine” coming from the exhaust at higher Rpms especially when downshifting going up hill it’s very Annoying.

I wondered the same thing about the tension springs. I called Gibson and they said the springs and donut gasket are not required and the flare on the pipe will deform slightly to make good seal.
As I suspected, this was total crap and it doesn't seal well at all. I'm going to try putting the donut gasket back in there.

I'm also not happy with the sound and horrible drone, but I'm playing around with the tip to improve things. If I can't improve things, there will be a used system in the for sale section very soon.

What did you do to fix the runbbing? It had a chatter when I started up this morning.

Update: the whining noise is actually a vibration from the exhaust touch metal at higher res I am goin f to try to figure it and pinpoint and fix it :)

I have seemed to have fixed my issues. Adjusted the pipe that goes over the crossmember. And a couple hose clamps on the hangers.

I had just placed an order on a Gibson exhaust for my 2006 V6. I’m curious to hear how it sounds, especially with my URD Y-pipe

Good!

Nice. These systems are MADE to order custom, and have been taking a while to ship from the factory. But, they WILL ship and you will get it :)

Gibson 4th gen Exhaust at Burtman Industries, sale extended order up - YES, it's STILL ON SALE, because I've been too lazy to change the price on the website. If you wanted one of these, do order soon because when I have time it's going to change.

Hey All... Seeing if I can get a little help. I have a 2007 v6 4Runner and just put on the Gibson system. It certainly is a sturdy little exhaust but it seems to drone more inside the cabin than outside. Outside it sounds great! Inside it gets old after a while. :(

I tested for leaks and then number one spot was the connection between the header and the first tailpipe section (b4 the muffler). I smashed the donut gasket a little more and that seems to have helped.

The next spot is all the "U" bolt connections... is there a ~torque setting or an idea of how much pressure those bolts will take? Every connection point is leaking. Any other thoughts for sealing up those connections?

Does anyone know if there is a "direction" to the muffler? I just read the directions and they mentioned: "with the louvers facing towards the converter"... I wasn't sure if I have it backwards or not???

When I look under from the passenger's side I can read "GIBSON".

Thanks!

Tighten the U bolts down TIGHT. You can't break em. It's even better to use air tools on them if you have.

Yes, it does making a difference which way the muffler goes in. Some choose to install it backwards because the want a MORE sound. The INLET of the muffler is the side with the open fave of the louvers. They are designed to catch the air :)

MrBunnyRunner your issues are exactly like mine. I can't get my connections to stop leaking, no matter how tight I crank the clamps. I even broke one. The connection to the y-pipe is terrible, the pipe is not flared enough to get good contact on the donut gasket.
I reduced the drone a bit by removing the Gibson tip and putting on a resonator tip instead. Inside still drones at certain rpms and engine load but overall sounds good. But outside with all the leaks it sounds like I've got major mechanical issues, haha.

Here is how inlet of muffler should be when installed properly.

I’ve sold hundreds of these over the years and go over everything with air tools and no issues. You can’t break the clamps. This System was designed to slip/fit together without any welding. Some want to weld once in a while and that’s up to you, but not needed. This is the quietest system there is and if you want more sound/louder I have Magnaflow too.

Thanks all for the advice! It's getting into motorcycle season so the poor truck is sitting in the garage being neglected.

The picture inlet of the muffler looks very familiar... I just can't recall which direction I put it. Does anyone know if the picture above is from the "G" end or the "N" end of the "GibsoN" stamped on the side of the muffler?
Either way... I'll bust it open next week and report back if I don't hear from anyone.

If one "were" to replace the just the muffler... any good suggestions out there that would fit our 24" long, 2.5" in/out with a 2.5" offset?
The closest thing I could find was the Jones MAX Flow MF1256 (but MAX sounds a lot like Turbo aka LOUD).

I'll also mention that I got a few extra pipes from Gibson (not sure who was packing that day) and I have a shorter Headpipe, but I'll have to measure how much room that adds. The one I installed was the Gibson 884-700618s and the extra one I have is the Gibson 962-700733s (shorter).
