Gobi Stealth Installation

My Gobi should be in today.

Does anyone have pics that they took during the installation process?

Any tips?

I don't see in the instuctons when/where to put the silicone. Anyone?

Any helpful info would be appreciated. I've got a 2011 4x4 LE and don't want this thing to leak water through the roof.

Thanks!

Its pretty straight forward. My only suggestion is to find a helper or two to help guide the rack in position. After that its easy, just look at the directions.

I'm thinking the silicone is for the parts surrounding the bolts. That's where water could possibly leak in. I'm not sure either but I to am hoping my Rack comes in this week so I can get a how-to put together.

There isn't a whole lot of complexities in the Gobi installation. The write write is pretty much as complete as it gets. Having a buddy handy is the biggest recommendation.

Thx Okki. Where did you get the clear automotive protection film?

I got my rack in a little while ago. Tomorrow I plan on installing it. I opened the box to check it out and this thing is awesome! It will be the final mod (for now) to my Runner. I'll try to post some pics when I'm done.

Any automotive shop should have it.. Autozone, Advance Autopart.. or my favorite o'Reilly Autoparts. there are several online retailers as well, but that won't work likely with your weekend installation plan :)

Weekend?? I'm installing today as soon as I get off work. Did you cut the clear film or did it come in a strip like that?

Also, how long does it take to install the rack?

One more question: Did you place silicone on the threads of the screws or just around the insertion?

Thanks.

Here's how I installed the film. I cut it to fit- explained here:

You can install the rack start to finish in about an hour or so- more time if you have wiring to do...

Be sure to post up pics once you get your rack installed. I'm getting really anxious about mine.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but for you guys who have installed a Gobi rack and also have roof lights mounted on the Gobi, would you recommend doing both at the same time? (i.e. installing the roof rack and the electrical/roof lights at the same time)

I'm pretty sure it'd be easy to mount the lights on the rack but I'm referring to the actual wiring work.

Thanks a lot!

I had the wiring run to the roof before the rack came in, but I did install my lights at the same time as the rack. I did mount the rack first and the lights after that; don't think there was any benefit or disadvantage to it that way, compared to putting the lights on while the rack is still on the ground.
