Going Bigger - 5th Gen Tire Fitment Guide

something to ponder....

Ready lift said they had no problems with a 33od 11.5 wide tire on a 18x 8"wide wheel with 0 offset (4.5" BS) using there 3"/2" lift kit

Thats equivalent to 295/65-18x8+0 or 295/60-19x8+0!!!!!!!

If that's really true then

275/60-20 on the extreme side
265/60-20 on the safe side
should fit with out BCM or fender moving or spacers....

I agree 1engineer that seems way to extreme on there data.

testing fitment on a lift and not in real world is my bet on how they go those numbers.

Im still thinking 265/60-20 on a 3/2 lift based on all the data this thread has provided.

Can anyone give advice for trimming the front bumper? I added spacers and now I'm rubbing full lock on the bumper (did fender liner mod already)

I cut mine today. Just took a piece of tape and used it as a guide for cutting. Just used a jig saw with a not too course blade.

Confirming that BFG AT KO2 275/70-17s do not run at all on sr5 wheels on stock suspension

Did you need to remove mudflaps?

(Flame suit on) OP says it's OK. There are plenty of people people running this setup...

but does anybody have a problem with 275s on a 7" wide wheel (SR5 or TRD-Pro)? I'm thinking along the lines of center tread wear or other issues due to narrow wheels.

There are many many documented cases of no rubbing. Chances are yours probably won't rub either. If you want some comfort, take a tape measure to the tire store and measure (use same tire different size) a 265 and a 275 bead to bead while off the rim. Next measure the tread width. What do you see? There's your comfort.

Here are the specs on a stock Dunlop 265/70/17

Aftermarket BFG ko2 275/70/17 & 285/70/17

Planning 285/70/17 very soon with stock suspension . Then upgrading suspension soon. Will report back

Which 285/70/17's?

I've read through half of the posts here and haven't found my answer. Please excuse me if I missed or didn't see the answer.

I understand all the gen 5 T4r's can be slightly different when lifted the 3". I understand the 285/70/17 are in the yellow zone. I know people are running them without chops/mods, so...what brands/models of tires are people finding that rub the least?? I'm looking at an AT type of tire with a slight aggressive sidewall. We are going with the Toytec 3 inch lift with the complete 5100 Bilstein adjustable coilovers and new rear "Superflex" coil springs and rear Bilsteins.

Curious to know if anyone is running that setup with 285's and did NOT have to body mount chop (what I'm really trying not to do) I don't mind it I have to cut plastic, did some cutting work to my '12 Tacoma

Thanks All for your input...

Have a 2011 Trail running with that same set up with 285/70/ 17 Cooper ST Max and having no rubbing issues and no chop. You will need to upgrade your uca's to keep your alignment within spec. I'm using LR uca. Do your self a favor and save yourself some time. When doing the rear throw ( I'm using 2 10mm rear spacer shims from Toy Tec ) a spacer on driver's side to level the fuel tank lean.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry for my ignorance dude but what are my uca's and rear throw? I haven't heard of that and I've been combing these threads about 3" lift on the 5th gen for a few days now. Those Coopers look like they would run big eh? I've just started to read all about the chopping people are doing. Def voiding the warranty I would think, no?

Upper control arms. The common problem where people screw up is their wheel selection and their choice to improve stance by running wheel spacers. Pushing the tires out from the vehicle is a sure fire way to rub. Keep the stock wheel BS and offser and don't run spacers and you can fit 285's with minimal trimming. Read their threads and look at their wheel choice and wheel spacer use. That's the real problem. But hey, just like hair plugs and liposuction what people won't do for looks.

Some time this year I should be going to go with se Cooper ST Maxx 295/70-17 on some FNWheels Counter steers... Going to change it up and buy some bronze ones. I'll report back. I already have BMC and trimmed my front bumper.

From what I've read you should be ok with minor trimming of the fender liner. But new here and still reading. My lift is going to be the icon shock 2.5/2 with total chaos uca's. I'm going to wait until I lift and decide on tires. I'd also not like to do the bmc and bfh method this time around on my 4runner

I just went with Icon 2.5 fronts and 2.0 rears(w/2" coils in the back) with about a 2" lift in the front. I have 275/65/18Rs on and there is a little rubbing on the front of the wheel well at full lock. I only had rubbing at full lock if the nose dove at full lock prior to that, so in a sense the lift made the issue more pronounced. Right now I have the stock UCAs and will be upgrading to the Total Chaos UCA. If there is still rubbing, I will probably do a little heat gun work.

1Engineer is correct. To solve the equation, one must know of ALL variables. If you do not know the stats on each wheel, you cannot accurately compare tires that rub and those that do NOT rub.

I have a 2015 Trail Premium model in OEM stock (not lifted) and am planning to upgrade to XD Monster 18x9 wheels with -12 offset (like the deep concave look) on either Duratrac 265 or 275 tires. I am aware the wheels will extrude out a bit. Does anyone here know, if these wheels with -12 offset will fit on a stock T4R properly without any rubbing issues? Do I still need to lift it up in order to fit -12 offset wheels?
Thanks for your help!
