Going Bigger - 5th Gen Tire Fitment Guide

Spacers make it worse.

Spacers would make it worse for the body mount & fender areas, but better for control arm clearances, right? I'm about due for tires, and want to make sure I understand what I'm getting myself in to when I go wider than 275.

TRD Pro Rims

I have been looking and cannot find an answer to my question. Will 255/75R17 on TRD Pro Rims (+4mm offset) rub on my 18 Limited with mud flaps? I see that other people are running 275/55R20 on stock rims +15mm offset and have no rubbing issues. As you can see they are very close according to this offset calculator.

Def increases body mount and fender issues. I have trd pro wheels, nospacers, and just put 285-70-17 on and no rubbing (lucky), but mine did have the front fender well pro chop from the port. Seems like those with spacers are rubbing much more frequently with smaller tires even.

Roger that, thanks. I'm not afraid to start chopping away at the mount and fenders/bumper, but I'm hoping to avoid control arm replacement for now. I expect I'll need it eventually for the best alignment, but if I can stagger the cost of tires and UCAs, then I'll be happier. I would do UCAs first and get it over with, but tires are becoming high priority.

yea spacers will help you clear the UCA...although on stock trail wheels with KO2 285/70-17 the sidewall cleared the OEM uppers.

and yes spacers will make you rub more on the BMC and bumper.:hatsoff:

Cool. I am ready to start hacking away at the bumper and do the BMC. I am currently set up with GX wheels that are the same width as Trail wheels, but 8mm difference in offset that puts them just a bit closer in. I'm looking at 295s, so if it's going to work, I think the odds are that I will need the spacers. I hope not, but I'm prepared to need them.

Yeap, I can confirm. I have 285/70-17 tires, 3" lift and 1.25" wheel spacers. The tire rubs a little when the wheel is at a complete full turn, mainly in reverse and it's almost unnoticeable when moving forward. Not enough for a BMC. Using Falken Wild Peaks (not KO2) but tires probably make a difference too.

BFG's run small too:rockon:

Alright, prepare the flamethrowers.

In my preparations to (have a shop) lift, we messed up along the way, and I find myself with 17X9 wheels and 275 tires. The tire recommends no wider than 8.5.

I'm pretty sure they haven't been mounted on the wheels yet. If this is the case, should I:

a) leave it, it's not that big of a deal from a *safety* standpoint
b) either upgrade to 285s of return for smaller width wheels?

Searches show that it doesn't seem to be a big deal, but there's not a ton out there on this.

The goal for me was to get a modest lift. I love going off the pavement frequently, but I have a 26 mile commute to work, so I was looking for a good middle ground. I found it in the Eibach Pro Truck lift. But I was not wanting to go all the way up to 285s since I drive at least 50+ miles per day. In the end, that's probably an easier swap than the wheels at this point if I had to do it.

Ultimately, I'd love to keep what I have, but I don't want to put anyone at risk. Is this one of those things where those width recommendations are just that, recommendations, or are they a don't-deviate-at-any-cost hard guidelines?

TIA.

You're fine but you should consider going up to a 285 and down to an 8" wheel. Probably work out to about the same weight, it'll look better, and likely less risk of rubbing.

So I am currently running 255/75R17 on the 7" wide TRD pro rims and no rubbing. I specifically have Firestone Winterforce in that size. but before you think I have solved all your problems I have an (otherwise stock) TRD Off Road, not sure if it would play out the same for a limited.

265/65/18

Has anyone put 265/65/18 tires on there 5th Gen 4runner before? if so opinions on the look and how does it ride?

I've checked out the "Going Bigger" tire thread and searched if anyone has done it but I have seen nothing.

Im looking for 265/65/18 tires and will most likely give my 2010 Toyota 4runner Limited a 2" lift soon. Any help would be appreciated

The TRD Off Road is different in the front end and I think it is lifted higher than the Limited.

the offroad isnt lifted, but the front end dimensions are certainly different for improved approach angles. this also means there will be more opportunities for rubbing the inner fender & liner on the limited. these issues can be solved with a heat gun and/or trimming.

I did briefly, and they looked tiny. I am about to go to 295/70/18. Ride quality was fine, but I think that will vary more by tire model than wheel size when you're staying this close to OEM sizing. My recommendation would be to get the lift first if possible, then see what you can cram in there. Good luck.

So I really can't speak to that as I really don't know much about the limited. I have also read that mileage may vary on tires, what rubs on one rig doesn't on another for no real easily explained reason, nevermind different model variations. As I said I am running the tire size in question with no issues.

On a side note pretty big snow storm here in NH overnight last night and this morning. with my rig and these tires it may as well be a sunny day in July. 4x4 + Snow Tires = :thumb3:

Hey guys. I have a 2019 4runner TRD OFF ROAD.

Can i swap my stock 265/70r17's for 285/75r17's???

I dont mind cutting away some things to clear like the front bumper for example.

Thanks

That's a big negative, you'll to do a lot more than cutting to get those to fit.

I want to go with 285's but I don't think I'll be able to with the setup I currently have so I think I'll just go to a 275.

So the problem is the 285 and not the 75?

I thought the problem would be the sidewall height.

What would be a better choice? My truck is 100% stock. Im going camping in 3 weeks and its going to be very muddy. Want a tire with more traction, might as well go a little bigger at the same time.

Any suggestions? Was looking at Toyo Wildpeak
