Good Camping spots in NorCal

I am wanting to get some opinions on good camping spots in California and more so Northern California. It will be myself my girlfriend our one year old daughter and some friends. We are looking to go camping around Labor day, September 3. Thanks for your suggestions.

you should check out boggs mountain state forest. its up in the mountains it has a bunch of walking/hiking trails, a gun range, clean quiet camp grounds and it is never really crowded. if that spot is you can always move to another spot. it does have some off road areas but not many and you have to know what your looking for to find them. its just outside of cobb in lake county so there is a gas station grocery store and liquor store about 15 minutes away from camp. yeah it isn't too far but its such a small mountain town you really do feel in the middle of the woods. only downside to the place is no off road vehicle only and in september it might be cooling off so it could be chilly out.
but if ya decide to go id love to meet up go wheelin a little bit and possibly go shoot some guns
 
Sacramento is pretty close to the sierra foothills, tons of good family friendly camping in that direction. If you head up hwy 50 just past Pollock Pines, turn left on Ice House road and drive for another 30 to 60 minutes, you'll find all sorts of nice camping, some good fishing, excellent wheeling, and good scenery.
 
You cant go wrong

around Spaulding Lake where SR 20 and I-80 meet. Lots of camping, trails to wheel, swimming and fishing.

@White I will talk to the gf and if we end up going to that spot I will let you know, maybe we can get some more 4runner peeps together and make a thing out of it.
 
Agree with JRM. Take Hwy 20 off of 80 and take a right on Bowman Lakes Rd. If you go far enough (10-12 miles) you'll find lake front camping, lots of dirt roads to explore, waterfalls, etc. I've been up there a few times with my son who's almost 1.5 yrs.

I'll have to check this area out, never been there. I also have a 1year old son, and a 3year old. Exploring dirt roads is always fun, especially if there is a fishing spot to be found.

the trails are great. I was up there over memorial day weekend. They require a reservation and a fee for camping now since the whole budget thing. But any way when you do call them ask for "ridge camp". Its the quietest, has a *****en bikemoney fire pit ring and a outhouse close by. And ask if theres any events going on the time that your reserving the camp site. Ive done 24 relay MTB races up there and theres something going on 24/7 so be aware. Last thing is that yes the temps break around the later part of september. But the fuel levels get so dangerously high that theyll ban fires. Just a heads up.

i go to boggs regularly since i live an hour away and my brother lives in cobb. I've never had to reserve a camp spot and honestly i didn't know you had to pay for camping! but i also camp in different places than most.

where are these outhouses you speak of? I've only seen 2 there and they were off 500 right by calso and that was last year for a couple weeks and then they were gone.

google maps says 168 miles from santa cruz to cobb and 3 hours and 24 minute drive.. but if were makin a thing of it just know there really isn't much off roading avaliable there. there is a hidden rock crawling pit with a couple steep hills with it. aside from that its just go and f around look for roads or trails that aren't marked with " no motor vehicle" signs and see how far they lead

ive ever had to pay to camp there before either and we always reserve Ridge Camp. Outhouse is at the top of road 220. See attached map
