Got 320 miles on tank of gas = 22mpg :)

I got 320 miles off one tank of gas, it was 85% highway so I can see why but it was pretty nice getting 22mpg in a 4runner. I filled up with 14.5 gal. normally its closer to 15 gal. so I probably could have gone a bit farther.

What size tires do you run, and what psi? Just curious.

I'm lucky if I see 16mpg. I kinda make it over 200 a tank, but that's pushing it. That's also about 60% highway, around 45 miles a day.

You having a manual tran. is helping you out.

Im not sure exact size but they are stock 16" rims with a little bigger than average all season tires. Id say about 35psi.

I did a 312 miles to the tank on the way home from California, fully loaded with 4 passengers and a rear cargo filled to the roof, truck was stock then.

I average 18-19mpg, but then i again i floor it all the time, i bet if i did 55-60 on the highway i would pull 22-23mpg all day long.

I just drove 1,400 miles round trip to moab and back, I kept it at 65 mph almost all the way and got between 18 mpg (worst section going from moab to beaver. Mostly up hill) and all the rest I was around 22-23 mpgs. You just have to take it easy. I have to because with almost 240K miles my runner likes the slow lane

My dad got 22-23 mpgs in his runner on his expedition trip to New Mexico this past month. Did almost 4000 miles with probably a thousand of that being offroad. His runner is lifted on 285s and 5 speed. It seems like every now and then you get a good 3.4 that sips the gas more than others!

No nothing wrong with 05 LTD's 4runner.....he only has 35's on and in my assumption...stock 4.10 gearing.

you guessed it.......35's and 4.10's don't play well together when it comes to gas mileage

To increase gas mileage best is exhaust, gears, intake.
Besides driving habits electric fan is the only think I can think of. What else can I do. Is it possible to get 17-18 mpg city lifted with 33?

the only way i can get awesome gas mileage with my 5speed is by driving so slow i hold up traffic. everywhere. the 4runner just doesnt like going fast.

I got 18.8mpg the day I bought it because I drove it home from 200 miles away and that was 98% hwy miles and was doing 70-75mph.
Since then it has been just the opposite about 98% city stop & go driving and I have yet to see anything over 12mpg, except very last tank was about 35-40% hwy and I got 12.8mpg.
This is driving it like a grand maw, rarely doing above 2000rpm.

This last tank I am putting it on the "Power Mode" ECT button just to check it out since apparently some people get better mileage with it on.

Read the recent Popular Mechanics article on saving fuel. All good methods that aren't hogwash. Don't spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on exhaust, intake, gears, etc., only to save a few bucks on fuel.

Its really strange that my runner got good mileage on that trip. I have not been on a trip in a while, and I haven't had a tank of gas that has not has at least one wheeling day on it in a year. I usually see about 150 mile to a tank that is generally a wheeling trip and a few trips down to the creek at night. I kept track of my miles with a gps and my fill ups and sure enough my average on higway trips running midgrade is right at 22-23 mpgs

I picked up an '02 Sport 2 months ago, and haven't gotten less than 19 mpg on it yet, got 22 on my last tank that included about 50% highway. Waaaay better than the 13-14 my '07 Silverado got around town...of course, a minimal drop in range is acceptable with planned upcoming mods

The altitude at which you regularly drive at makes a big difference when you are calculating MPGs.

Higher altitude = better MPGs provided the truck is driven similarly.

So without that info, it's really hard to compare MPGs accurately.
