Thanks everyone for the kind words.
Even at $301 these were expensive wheels, but I absolutely love them. They look so awesome (to me, of course). Between the deal on these and my free TRD CAI, I am rather pleased with my post purchase treatment from my dealer

uhhhh maybe i have a rather contorted view of expensive for wheels, but 301$ seems like a cheap cheap wheel, particularly when compared to the wheels on my supra.
Yes, 301$ is expensive compared to the discount tire special XD rockstars and stuff like that, but for a decent forged wheel it's not at all.

For those who won't pay that rediculous price for those wheels just wait a year or so and they'll be showing up on the used market for about half the price just like the FJ TRD wheels did. (I still actually prefer the FJ rims over these but they still are nice wheels but not for the price)
Agreed! I'm always of the "good enough" opinion when considering upgrading my vehicle, but my mountain bikes are a different story. My 29er wheelset was $600 (stans arch* + lefty&hope hubs) and they aren't even fancy carbon like your DT Swiss! My Mavic Crossmax SLR wheelset for my Scalpel goes for $1k. I did get a pretty sweet deal on those, though. Bought them lightly used along with the carbon lefty SL110 for $1k from a guy who took them off a team replica Scalpel.
* I went with the Arch because I wanted something more robust. My 150lbs still managed to taco the front rim in a pretty nice wreck, haha.

TRD's Mounted!
Wheels arrived on Monday and I got them mounted yesterday morning! Initial pics are below. I had the mounting done at my dealer since they quoted me the best price -- $60 for mount and balance, including TPMS rebuild kits, etc. That was going to make the whole upgrade $1465 for the wheels+lugs + ~$70 for the mount/balance. Plus, I figured that if there was an issue with the install, it would be easier to have it handled at the Toyota dealer...
Well, as you can see in the third pic, they ruined the finish on one of the wheels doing the balance! I'll post another thread on this since I don't have time to fill in all the details right now, but suffice it to say that they're getting me a new wheel (poor kid, probably going to have $399 come out of his paycheck) and didn't charge me for the mount and balance... Turns out that the "best tire guy" balanced 3 of the wheels and he had another tech balance the 4th while he was installing the first 3 and the other tech did the damage. There was also some minor scuffing on 2 of the other wheels around the lug holes which I gave the service manager grief about, but since that's bound to happen eventually and it is pretty hard to see, I decided it was minor enough to not tear into the guy about (they're also contacting TRD to find out what they recommend for touch-up paint for the lug scuffs). Point of this is that if you get these wheels, WATCH THE TECHNICIAN LIKE A HAWK and consider asking to put on the lugs yourself! I'll be removing/installing the lugs myself from here on out. Side note, the sevice manager started off the conversation about the damange with "I know this guy at Hubcap Heaven that can fix that..." (really, he did say "Hubcap Heaven", and, as politely as I could I told him to stop talking and order me a new wheel).
Anyway, aside from that hiccup, I'm digging the new look! Hope the other installs go better than mine did...

First off- the wheels look incredible.
Second off- What a bunch of idiots. Something as simple as a wheel swap and they managed to screw up three of the four wheels? As expensive as they are, you should not accept any damages IMO. I would make them replace all three and they can repair yours and sell them to someone else at a discount. Morons!

They're Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armors in 285/70R17. 30k miles on 'em and have plenty of tread for another year of driving and a "normal" winter, but it's a La Nina year apparently and the snow dancing has already starting around Utah (La Nina's are historically some of the best winter snow conditions around here so I'm hoping I may need to add a snorkel just to make it through the snow drifts!)... She'll probably get a set of Duratrac's before Christmas...
Antman - yeah, I've been going back and forth on my decision to let them slide on the other 2 wheels and you may have just made up my mind...

Well, stopped by the dealer over lunch today and spoke with the service manager about the lug hole damage on the other wheels (after thoroughly inspecting each wheel last night, 2 of the 4 wheels had metal dings & finish damage and the other one had finish damage but the metal hadn't been ding'ed as bad... yep, that's right - all 4 wheels had some flaws around the lug holes in addition to the damage from the balancing of the one wheel!). Long story short, after a good chat they're getting me 4 new wheels from TRD. Really appreciate John and DJ at Toyota Bountiful stepping up and making it right.
I think their plan is to get the 4 damaged wheels repaired at a local wheel shop and sell them through their parts dept so if there's anyone in Utah that is interested in getting a set of these TRD wheels in a "gently used & refinished" state, give John Maher (Service Mgr) a call at 801-295-3481.
Needles to say, I'll be watching like a hawk when they do the remount/balance on the new wheels and I'll be putting the lugs on myself!!!
Nope, no lift and no rubbing issues after pulling the plastic in the front of the wheel-well forward (there are a couple of threads that describe this quick and easy mod). I will say that I haven't done any "serious" off-roading to get full travel out of the front suspension (so there could be a rub issue I haven't found), but in "normal" off-road conditions on bumpy dirt roads and city driving they've worked great.

Did you taco the Stans? I'm 170 lbs which puts me on the upper end of Stan's weight limit for most of their wheels... If you taco'd it at 150 lbs I'm glad I decided against building up a set ~2 years ago when I was looking at options (heard the Stans can be a bit flexy under "heavier" racers like me).
With 2 seasons on carbon hoops, I'd highly recommend picking up a set if you were so inclined and have the means, especially for a 29er. The difference in stiffness is phenominal. I've got my eye on a set of ENVE 29er rims laced to DT 190s if I end up building up a 29er HT in the spring. I race with a couple of the ENVE engineers (based in Ogden, UT) that have been running their hoops for a few seasons and they've held up well... just wish they'd hook me up with a pro deal!!!
Before someone gives us too much grief for hijacking this TRD wheel thread with mountain bike banter, I'll stop typing... happy riding on the bike and wheeling in the 4Runner!
