Did you ever see the movie Miracle?

I sure did, one of my favorite sports flicks. I like the speech for it's context and the quotes I can pull from it. Carter on the other hand...

Forgive my ignorance, but why was it considered such a failure. I understand the timing was bad, the mood of the country, etc but what about the speech was so bad? I'm not disputing you, just asking a sincere question out of the thirst for knowledge.

My perception is that it received horrible reviews for mostly the reasons you listed. Also people don't like being told American's have lost their way, their sense of purpose, their drive.

I sympathize with what I think Carter was trying to say, which I imagine was "we are a great country but we could be much better" however that is not what he said nor how he came across.

Well.... It start out as great Obama quotes, and morphed into great presidential quotes. I realized not everybody shares the love for Obama as I do and some might want to poke fun at republican presidents as well.

The full text does nothing to vindicate or expand upon the phrase. Who the hell is he to say someone hasn't worked for where they are... unless he's just speaking for himself.
