Great weekend in the mountains cutting firewood

Spent Sat Night in the mountains cutting firewood for a friend. 4Runner pulled the trailer well. Whiskey and the fire was a great way to end the day, then back home Sunday for a Turkey dinner. Happy Easter everyone

Firewood cutting

Nice work if you can get it. Makes me want to get my chain saw out and cut down a tree. You've got it nearly all split too.

One of my first jobs as a teenager was cutting firewood with a local guy who also taught me to scuba dive. He was a jack of all trades and drove a school bus by day. When we weren't scrubbing boat hulls on scuba in Newport Harbor, CA we'd go out and find some firewood. Back at his yard I'd hold the splitter and he'd hit it with a 20 lb sledge. He never missed and I still have both hands to prove it. I miss good old Ted Pedersen.

The trailer looks a little tongue-heavy, like maybe more of the load needed to be placed farther back. What do you think? I suppose you have trailer brakes, right?

Nice. I used to run 2 wood stoves in my house. And here I thought I was anal about cutting the trees all nice and even-steven. My kids still tease me about making them stack the wood "just so".

We ended up splitting it all that night, trailer was tongue heavy however did not have far to drive at low speed up a windy mountain road. Doing work like that never feels like work, it is a relaxing way to spend a day.

Having the wood all the right length makes for being able to fit just the right amount in the stove all the time.

Oh, I know, I know. I painted a black mark on my saw bar, laid it on the trunk to measure off the next cut. Very anal.

What is that - pine? I cut all hardwood, oak, hickory, locust. Loved the smell as I sawed or split - especially hickory.

Mostly lodge pole pine in that area, that we cut, some larch as well. Not many options for hardwood here in the Rockies, would prefer it being it burns hotter and longer. However this burns well and has a nice smell to it.
