Don't forget, these aluminum billet housings (End-frames) are forged/lathed to every specific detail. None of their alternators are rebuilt or salvaged, cleaned-up and relabeled new. I'm sure that they'll get hold of the 2015/2016 blueprints for you the very same way they did for me Built from scratch; SO HANG-IN-THERE!!!

I see you are not the only one so hopefully , in time, they are able to source the connector they need. Sounds like we need to update some threads about "differences between model years).

I always knew my 2014 was the best year, alternator connector, more than just a clock in the center dash display....etc, etc

Update:

I called my local dealer today and spoke to them and they told me that the alternators are the same from 2010 to 2016, (no word on 2017 yet) I ordered an alternator from them for a 2016 just to verify there are no changes. The alternator will be here Monday morning and I will update this again. We should be in the clear, but I like to be 100% sure .

I agree with you; how hard would it be to go to a Toyota dealership and ask the parts counter person to let you see a 2016 4Runner alternator to match the electrical harness input connector? ...pretty sure the electrical manual will reveal if this alternator is ECU/PCM controlled or only monitored, the number of pins and what each one does.

Doesn't look to be a big deal to swap out, slightly tight quarters but what they hey it's not my first rodeo turning a wrench................

Forgot to mention, told you this was on my "to do" list back when you made the switch, just late to the party...............again!

(lol) Hey Barry,

The only reason I had a shop do mine for me was because when the alternator 'finally arrived', we got hit with another 18 inches of snow on top of the snow that I had been waiting to melt! But I was at the shop when my mechanic made the swap and there were no particular obstacles once you knew that there was a third bolt underneath the alternator, connecting it to the left exhaust manifold!

Toyota has switched over to a LIN controlled regulator or a COM regulator and so has Honda. It's one pin that is controlled by the PCM

Which as you can see has 4 pins and those are L (Lamp), IG (Ignition), FR (Field Report), S (Sense).

The single pin connector on the alternator in the first picture is from a 2016 Toyota Tacoma 4.0. SO that was why I had my doubts they were the same alternator from 2010 to 2016. I thought the Tacoma and 4Runner would of shared the same 4.0 liter?

Maybe since I'm somewhat local, Anthony from DC can work with me if the 17's end up being different if my group buy purchase doesn't work?

And thanks for the that great 'Heads-up'! Now that this has come up, it's triggered a couple of questions:

(1) I wonder if the LIN (for linear??) controlled regulator can be removed and swapped out for a conventional Denso analog regulator, or...

(2) If an interface module can be connected to that LIN 'single pin' connector and then there would be a four pin connector on the interface module input side for a simple 'plug-n-play' installation.

"...it'd be nice if I still had my stock 'Denso' 130A alternator (sold it soon after I purchased the 270-XP), and the newer model (2016) 130A so I could take them both apart and see just what parts are interchangeable. Then I could see how to get around the recently modified 'single pin' Denso 130!" Once again Anthony, thanks for all your help and the info!
