Hi folks,

I just wanted to submit my two cents and say to those that are on the fence about the group buy: I bought my DC Power Engineering 270-XP just over two years ago. Not only was there no one that I could find who had installed a 270-XP, but I was looking for anyone who had replaced the stock alternator themselves with just a stock alternator replacement... it looked like a Bi^ch to replace in the driveway and at that time, I had no backup vehicle at my house so if I needed a part from Autozone or something, I would be stuck; which made me feel somewhat intimidated to start that job in my driveway; which was originally the reason that I started the Alternator upgrade (5'th GEN) thread, just to see if anyone had tackled that job on a 5-GEN. Lucky for me it snowed 'AGAIN' so I paid a shop a couple hrs labor to do the install, and at that time I paid Nation's Starter and Alternator $639.95.

I'm saying this to a few of you who are still undecided but the GB will end soon and the price is going back up. I bought the 270-XP with no discount price and am still thrilled that I have it! Don't let this opportunity get away from you cuz I have a feeling that after the GB is all over with, you're gonna kick yourself, and you may still buy the 270 anyway cause you really need the extra current under the hood to keep those batteries charged... "just my instinctive fatherly 'hand on shoulder' kickin' in!"

rig, cheers!

I'd like to be added to the list. I'm still a bit uncertain on the install, but I don't have to put it on right away! Thanks Okki and rigtec for the push in the right direction!

I'll add that in case anybody wonders, it doesn't take much to discharge batteries when using a modified truck. I have dual PC1200s in my rig and I fully charged them with a charger, drove 1000 miles each way (about 2.5 days of driving so about 8 hrs, 8 hrs, 2 hrs) and at least 4 hours per day over two weeks. Checked my batteries when I got home and was back down to 12.5 volts. That was pretty much just the ARB fridge and the stereo and normal driving (daylight mostly and no use of aux lighting).

Can't wait to have enough juice under the hood to keep it all happy! I'm tired of putting it on the charger monthly. lol

I have the same setup with CKMTA12 and I can say without the compressor my both batteries stay around 80% charged. But if I run the compressor even with engine on my secondary battery drops to 20% and then good luck.

I'm waiting for mine to end this charging misery.

Batteries discharge much quicker than they can be recharged, both of you have serious loads and justify a high output alternator.

I would like to offer another opinion for upgrading, lack of use. In my situation, my truck is not a DD and may sit for a week or two without use.

Our trucks have multiple ECU's to operate a multitude of components, thus requiring power to maintain settings/memory which creates a "key off" draw which is normal! Failure to recharge by either starting vehicle (idling for extended period, or driving) or hooking up a charger will cause battery to "go dead" within a couple of weeks. Then factor in battery condition, add on accessories like remote start systems, trailer brake controller, even cell phone chargers connected to all time power source will increase "key off" draws resulting in battery drawing down even sooner.

My reason for upgrading is not excess loads (at this point :heh:), but for battery recovery! Just my 2 cents......................

The old days of carbureted vehicles with no ECU's and the statement "haven't started vehicle in the past year, but turned key and car cranked" are long gone.

oh goodness... but theres nothing wrong with my current alternator, its just underpowered...

man, i'm about to buy one of these even though im going to need a shop to do the install...

UPDATE: nope going to hold off and pay more later. you guys better do a writeup of how to do this install yourself with pictures and tools, so one day i dont have to pay a labor charge to do it.

Wasn't trying to insinuate that the factory alternator won't do the job, it will. But depending on use and accessories, recovery takes much longer, nature of the beast.

If my truck were a daily driver, would think twice about upgrading because stock alternator would maintain perfectly fine. In my case is it a need or want..........................want (with a tad of need for future mods ;):)!

Your savings now will pay about half of the installation cost. I'm getting mine installed because the truck is already in the shop for maintenance and alignment anyway and it's a time savings.

The DIY install is not complicated. If anything, I'd grab the savings now and wait for the first write up to decide if you are installing yourself or getting it done. Unless funds are the issue now, that would give you the best savings and flexibility.

Just a thought.

Another option, PayPal has an offer of 0% interest for six months, that's $86.06 a month, or $2.86 a day :reddance: It's not about how much it costs, it's what the monthly payments are.............................:hiding:

That's what I did!

Batch 6 has been contacted. :jump:

TOMORROW (12 AUG) is the LAST day of the group buy! If you are not in Batch 7, you are not participating and will not be able to partake in the great deal that DC Engineering is offering us as part of this group buy!

Thanks and have a great day!
