Group buy for Doug Thorley PREMIUM VERSION headers, need 20 people!

I’m guessing the group buy is over? I’m always late to the party...lol

Doesn’t mean you can’t get the standard long tubes or shorties. They’re still 98% stainless and it’s completely ceramic coated, it’s just that the mounting flange is cold rolled steel instead of stainless. Those are also much less expensive than these. I believe this group buy has DT a bit backordered, but they are a standard item that is always available to purchase.

Hardware arrived

Titanium gold Jason B Thank you.

I installed mine in my garage with no real issues. DT's instructions tell you to unbolt the motor mounts to lift the engine slightly, I lifted one side 1" & then the other to get the headers in. That's two bolts per side, no big deal. Starting the nuts, there were two or three on the center tubes behind the shock tower that you had to do with the index fingers of both hands. Torque wrench, I was only able to get on about half of them, the rest I matched by feel with a flex head box ratcheting wrench. Std sockets are too short to clear the studs, deep sockets interfered with some of the tubes. Somebody mentioned the Sunex swivel impact socket fit really well. The air tubes are in the way, so 05 and newer like mine are a little trickier.
If they think they need to pull the engine, you are at the wrong shop.

I'll also say, the more I drive it the better I like the LT, Y pipe & Gibson setup. I wish I would have bought the side exit version but didn't know any better when I bought it.
How often did you have to access the bolts through the wheel well? Probably a lot taking the old ones off? I'm thinking if I take the coil over res bracket and the secondary out it will clear up enough room around the gussets to squeeze some tools in there. Luckily I have the 03' so no air tubes to work around on the install. I really didn't leave myself much room lol. I did all this suspension work myself, I'd really like to say I did these too when it's all buttoned up and Rumbling.

Most of my access was through the wheel well. Having no air tubes will certainly help. Although I love your suspension, I'm glad I didn't have to work around it :)

Finally!!! The studs came

Studs finally arrived. Big thanks to Jason B. These studs are damn fine. Called my shop that I’m planning to have install yesterday and they have availability all week. Already tried to get work off tomorrow so can get them done as soon as possible.

Premium long tubes, titanium studs, Y pipe and full Gibson catback exhaust.

Was quoted a stupid cheap rate, only part I’m a bit worried about is the time to take the factory studs off. Not rusted but they have seen the load of salt air exposure over the years in Hawai’i.

Nice background for the hand pic! Hope the install goes good for your shop.
Just sprayed all the hardware with penetrating oil this morning. Trying to get psyched up to do this. Need to get a good start on it tomorrow. At 57 yrs old it's hard to find the motivation lol. I should just pay somebody to do it but it's a pride thing.....that and I'm stubborn.

How do you plan to deal with inspections and what not in Hawaii, I hear they are pretty strict. I've known folks to remove their mods and put them back on after. Any truth to that?

Hey, Jason B. Anyway to still purchase the titanium hardware or was it just a group buy thing?

Hawaii is strict with “recon” ie reconstruction that follows a safety check. Basically any modifications done that change the original performance capabilities of a vehicle. They are usually only strict with lift kits that include body lifts. Also having your tires stick out beyond the vehicle body is a big one so people put their small stock tires on or use garden liner as temporary fender flares.

The full safety checks include all lights working, checking tire tread, windshield wipers, rust, no dummy warning lights and other illegal modifications.

That all being said, there’s many shops you can find that give you a no fail safety check for an additional charge.

Only thing that fails on my car currently is my led turn signals and running lights cause I run cheap LED’s that hyper flash. So that’s a very easy swap once a year for my check.

There is no emissions testing so I am getting rid of all 4 cats. And given the need for “recon” with my exhaust upgrades I don’t think I’ll have any issues getting a pass.

Thanks I appreciate that. I peeped on your build page. I’m blown away. Haha so jealous you got 3 badass rigs built the right way.

I didn’t get work off haha gotta wait a few more days. And I greatly wanted to tackle the project myself but knowing a guy at a shop that does installs on Toyota’s regularity and given a good deal on the install I’m swallowing my pride and paying.

Received my titanium hardware this past weekend, after a long wait, I finally have all the pieces to get quotes for install.

Both heat shields are out. Manifold studs are next. Tight in there, hoping for some good luck, Karma, and vibes. Skills and tools are lacking so I need it lol.

So what wrenches do I need for the titanium hardware?
Hardware I received are 1/2" nuts . They need to be 12 points. I bought a deep 12 point socket and a swivel head ratchet wrench that fit pretty well. Hope I have The clearance. The end of the studs are #4 Allen.
Hoping all the OEM studs cooperate. So far Sea Foam Deep Creep is working. Only broke one header nut loose so far though. Propane might be in my near future.

MAP gas over propane (yellow cylinder). I used to try to break nuts free with propane and didn't get anywhere, bought a MAP torch and its much hotter and results in better heat to break stuff free.

JVC8790 Thanks!
Well, all the studs are out on the passenger side. A little cleaning with some emery cloth and it's ready for Titanium and Header.
LT1coupe Did you hang the header on one side, let it down and then lift the other or just lift both sides at the same time? Seems like instructions are calling for both sides to be lifted just to get the oem off.

Dip stick tube got me last night. Started out with a brain fart and was trying to bend it into it's old path, Yes I read the instructions, but like I said
Brain:toilet:.
At one point it looked like an old twisted up piece of rope.

Because they both tie together on the block, I also let the Trans tube get in my head so I wasn't focused on just the Oil tube first.
So started fresh this morning and found the right path through the headers.
LT1coupe Thought of a little trick for that pesky hard to reach stud behind the runner and behind the shock tower by taping the nut to the end of my finger. The lower bracket of the Motor mount kind of obstructs your access from reaching underneath, so I reached in around the tower and this worked pretty well. I have long arms which helps a lot too.
