I installed this evening and Just logged on to ask about the super tight positive cable coming from the fuse box. Looks like y'all have the same issue. I got it installed but do not want it so tight long term.

Actually no, only 8 gauge....

Check my build thread for more information on the alternator cable replacement. Not a quick and simple project. I may explore it again when I upgrade my alternator, but cable extensions or terminal extensions are the only simple solution at this time.

That just might work! Can then use the main terminals for Winch/Compressor/Lights etc

Yes, although the ones I saw where brass. I think either way though.

I ask out of curiosity, I was considering getting the optima blue top, then I noticed these Diehards were apparently made by Odyssey? I am certainly concerned about the cable length too, it was why I had originally considered the optima, it is overall an inch shorter and the post is closer to the edge.

Thx, I remembered two diff size posts. Couldn't find the specs at sears. Remy Website is confusing but I think this will work so I ordered both sizes, some military terminals, and covers to get both batteries hooked up correctly.

The stud to post conversion is the route I went. Note the thread pitch on the diehard is 3/8-16 and then 5/16-18. This is SAE standard, but I could only find one place online that confirmed those specs - received them this weekend and the fit is correct: solarseller.com

Duh! The stud to post conversion would likely make this battery swap mod-free. I guess I'll leave mine for now, but eventually I will go the stud post route for a nice clean look...

Haven't had time to swap the tray and battery in yet so I am not sure on the amount of slack. I am looking forward to not having to bend anything. My research found plenty of FJ guys running these, and Slee has it standard on one of their battery kits.

Well I managed to find the 3/8 in post converters locally and fixed my positive terminal. It looks WAY better, bent everything back to the way it was originally.

The only issue is that the adapter is solid lead and to it's strength at being screwed onto the post is, at best, barely adequate. It seems tight enough for now, but frankly, I'd buy extras and keep a couple in your tool bag just in case some extreme offroading ends up loosening them up or something.

Oh and here is why brick and mortar stores are going out of business. Two different auto parts stores both had the 3/8 but not the 5/16 adapters. WTH? They have multiple sets of marine clamps that contain one of each size in them but the adapters? Nope!

So I gotta go on line and buy the 5/16 ones now still. Should have just done that in the first place!

Post Terminal Converters

I saw some reference to the light duty lead post terminal converters, which seems like a valid concern. Would these work as alternatives.

I don't think so, it looks like those actually have an allen bolt that screws them down onto a female terminal on the battery.

However, I meant to come back here and say that I got my Remy battery terminal adapters and they are WAY better quality than the ones I got from the local auto parts store.

The Remy ones have a steel nut inside so they can be screwed down tight without worrying about stripping soft lead threads like the first set I bought.

Just remember when ordering from Remy to get one set of each thread size that they sell
