No new laws even addressing high capacity clips in assault rifles? How many mass (school) shootings need to happen before people smarten up? Anyone agree with me on this? Hopefully change happens for your own good before YOU lose a loved one.

There were some of the worst shootings during the last ban. It didn't stop them then and it won't stop the shootings now. If a MAGAZINE holds 8, 10, 12 or 20 rounds is not going to change things.

What about a ban on fertilizer and diesel or box cutters? (two of the worst tragedies in US history.

Are we off topic yet?!

I agree, high capacity clips should be banned. They could seriously pinch a finger...

Magazines, not "clips".
Assault weapons are fully automatic, semi-autos are not assault rifles.
Bans don't work. There was more gun violence during the AWB than before it.
With practice, anyone can reload very fast...so limiting the capacity to 10 rounds is somewhat pointless...only buys a second or 2.
 
My fists are 'assault weapons'. Coincidentally, they're also 'defense weapons'.

My AR is also in both categories.

Stop buying into these labels. They mean nothing except to scare the populace.
 
The trouble here with us primitive Yanks is that we don't have a Queen to protect us. Hence the need for a AR with many many high cap mags. :hatsoff:

Or maybe we should pass a law outlawing mass school shootings. Yeah, that should work. Oh, wait......

If it's a label, then Adolf put the label on it...
The term assault rifle is a translation of the German word Sturmgewehr (literally "storm rifle", "storm as in "military attack"). The name was coined by Adolf Hitler. This firearm is generally considered the first assault rifle that served to popularise the concept and form the basis for today's modern assault rifles.

So does anyone here have any suggestions how to end the killing? We have lots of guns in Canada, do some research, pull your head out of the sand and tell me why there are so many more shooting deaths in the states than Canada.

Re the comment about more deaths during the awb than before, I presume more after than during too? Is it like inflation to Americans? Just a necessary for economic growth?

Show me one manufacturer that markets a gun as an 'assault weapon'. The only people that use this term happen to be politicians. Gun enthusiasts refer to them as 'semiautomatic rifles'.

Again, I don't own any assault rifles. I own defense rifles. I ask any politician to explain the difference.

LOL, good luck with that! I just thought sentiment might have changed after Newtown. Even the guy from Littleton is all for high powered automatic weapons. I'll just leave it at that.

Enjoy your Japanese vehicles everyone! Wonder how many shootings they have over there...

Lets see....Canada has a poulation of about 35 million and the US has a poulation of over 400 mil. Does this clear it up for you?

I work for a gun company and design guns for a living..."modern assault rifle" is certainly legitimate military terminology and is commonly used in the firearms community.\
Problem is that politicians think "assault rifles" are machine guns (correct)....but they also think civilian available AR-15's are "assault rifles" (incorrect). The general public (non-firearms enthusiasts) think that AR-15's are fully automatic.

The whole thing is silly, gun bans do nothing. A determined nut-job could do plenty with a sharp long knife.

Statistics are presented based on a "per 100,000 POPulation" metric which amazingly allows us to compare the two! Hurray for statisticians!

Gun deaths per 100,000 as follows:

US - 10.2
Canada - 2.13

The only "developed" country with a higher rate is Mexico, but most would consider that a developing country.
