Hard to find Specs, Info & Measurements on 231mm 13WL Tundra Calipers & Rotors

When Callahan auto parts (especially brake parts) were first mentioned, I thought we were about to be rick-rolled with Tommy Boy references.

New caliper bolts ?
Not to as to the cost of my future project, but years back working on some bmw's and some Volvo's the manuals recommended new caliper bolts when installing calipers.
I don't think I have read any ones posts saying that they had replaced them

wonder if the FSM says anything about that

and if so part number and price

Snagged a Callahan TBU kit for $275 this morning: https://smile.amazon.com/FRONT-Cali...&qid=1469044075&sr=8-1&keywords=13wl+callahan

Reviews of Callahan seem to be good, the brand is owned by Powerstop apparently. I needed new brakes regardless, so I mostly just wanted the calipers since the pads and rotors can be replaced cheaply. I should be able to give first hand experience in a week or two.

Link no worky, anyone have a working link?

Guys. I have a pair of 231mm calipers for sale. 1 is rebuilt. The other has a seized piston and all the new rubbers for it once the piston comes out.

I need to sell these. $50 shipped. Spend some time to get a piston out and you have new rebuilt calipers.

pm'ed. How hard is it to get that piston out? Can I get it done at a machine shop?

Yeah. Actually what I was planning on doing was putting the caliper on my truck. Then putting a block of wood between the 2 other pistons and a c clamp to hold the third then push on the brakes and use the truck to push the piston out.

If you follow that madness. But I just what them out of my office.

No longer appears to be on the site anymore. Probably just one of those things you need to check back for from time to time. I was going to get the Stoptech kit that occasionally dips down to $300, but then I found that kit.

As far as the kit itself, it is doing well. No squealing, no visible dust(hard to tell though since I haven't washed it since wheeling), and only a little bit of fade after driving down from the mountains at a "spirited" pace. Was definitely a quality purchase.

Great write up

Been reading this post for the last year and finally going to get around to doing it! So pumped! Thanks for taking the time and putting in the effort on the details!

FRONT Red [2] Calipers + [2] Rotors + Quiet Low Dust [4] Ceramic Pads Performance Kit https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00EOBMFAY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_GLYXxbY804T6T

Snagged these when they reappeared for $206 shipped. I ordered them three days ago and they just arrived in good shape. Local shop is going to install the set and do a flush for $300. If all goes well, $506 seems like a bargain for getting rid of my wavy rotors. Anyways, looks like they're backed up to 275, but still seems like a great deal.

Use a tyre compressor with the "needle" fitment shoved into a bit of old cut brake hose. works every time, usually with a bang!

Same thing happened to me! I soaked it well, put a wooden block into the free side, clamped the opposite piston and hit it with compressed air. I worked it for some time and when it let go, it really popped. You might want to to consider finding another one if you can-- when I had a look at the caliper and piston, I ended up having to polish the cylinder and piston for a while to get the corrosion off.

My problem now, and would very much like as much advice as you can offer! (Bought these from shootmymime)

After a lengthy internal debate, I have decided to sell the calipers I bought from shootmymime and got that Callahan kit instead. Want to get it done, and have so many other projects on my list right now I can't commit to them :) I'd like to break even at $50 plus shipping

How is this kit? Is it good? Reliable? Or better to get used OEM and rebuild it ?? Are they the big tundra?

Yes, they're the bigger of the two, the 231mm. Red wouldn't have been my first color choice, but I haven't run into anything, so reliability has been as good as can be expected. I've even submerged them in muddy water/river crossings multiple times with nary a complaint from them. As has been stated, they're all pretty much the same regardless of the source.

I saw your post below and I understand wanting to get it done. I had plenty of time and empty work bench space so I worked on them when I got a chance, over a week. I got my calipers cheap from a wrecker (I did have to return one as it had a broken bleeder, luckily they had several). I soaked both for almost 48 hrs in "Metal Rescue" a rust removing bath and scrubbed them. I then returned them to the bench and hit them with compressed air to remove the pistons. If you saw my previous post, I had a bit of a chore getting one piston out, as described. I basically, braced all the pistons and hit it with compressed air, working it back and forth and slowly it started to move. Once I got it out, I spent an eternity polishing the pistons then the bores with a fibre pot scrubber (not steel wool) to a near mirror finish and until the bores had no marks or scoring. I then put some brake fluid on the pistons and slide them into the bores to ensure then slide smoothly (with seals). I then re-assembled them, taped them up and applied 2 coats of Coroseal (rust converter primer), 2 coats of primer, 2 coats of paint. It was alot of effort but I was happy with the result.

Just the time needed to do them right is all that is keeping me from it. I have to hang siding and new windows and doors on my 2400 sq. ft. house then paint, all before it gets too cold out.

Yup, I hear you! I also had some outdoor work on the house to do, which I luckily finished yesterday. Did I mention I hate gutters? Before it gets too cold I have a list of work to do on several vehicles in front of my house. The front end on my sons' Corolla (acquired the parts cheap from pick a part and rebuilt the CV's--- relatively new struts, wheel hubs etc) then my Wifes' car is threatening to leap the queue as she's noticed a humming noise from the front and her drivers power lock stopped working, on her Lancer. Also another sons' backup light on his Eclipse isnt working... Unfortunately for my 4Runner, the rear diff breather mod will have to wait...
