Hard to find Specs, Info & Measurements on 231mm 13WL Tundra Calipers & Rotors

I should be good after I return 1 C9951 and exchange for C9950, right? I believe one is a left-side caliper and the other is a right-side caliper. I've read you want to make sure the bleed plug is at the top of the caliper when installed. Please confirm.
Thanks.

Seems you should return one and get a 9950. Call a local AZ and double check the part numbers with them.

I would like to eventually do this brake upgrade with 231mm 13WL Tundra calipers & rotors, but before I start ordering and buying the requisite components, how can I best determine whether my current wheels (Eagle Alloys series 195, 17x8, 14mm offset, 5" backspacing) and tires (BF Goodrich T/A KO LT285/75R17) will indeed actually fit?

Look up the wheel specs to tundra/sequoia splits 5s, that's what came on the 231s.

This might be a dumb question because I haven't had any problems with them (probably just jinxed myself..SON-OF-AH!) but, is there a rear upgrade as well? If the fronts work, shouldn't the rears? Haven't done any research for rears but now curious.. I wish I would have read this before replacing my BOTH fronts that froze.. Definitely putting this on the LONG wish list..I just keep waiting for the fronts to freeze up again after putting 60k and 40k on them respectively. Anyway, GREAT WRITE-UP!!

People have mentioned doing a rear disc upgrade and somewhere on here I think a build thread. But the rears are ok and do their share, fronts are the issue and with this upgrade everyone instanslty notices a huge difference in stopping power.

ooops.. i deleted the last one because i realized i was in the 3rd gen forum.. will this front upgrade work on the 4th gen? I thought 3rd/4th gen bolt patterns and wheels were interchangeable.. just when i do the search it only comes up in the 3rd gen forums.. Thanks in advanced!

:dammit: Yeah, i'm an idiot.. just took a little time to search and turns out i already have the big boy brakes!! geeeeez... I guess i was looking for "CALIPER" upgrade. I pulled out of the garage today and felt like one was sticking...AGAIN. Don't really feel like replacing them again..

Dig me a 3rd gen though!! Matter a fact...I dig 'em ALL! Had a 3rd gen limited on the hook and literally right before I called the bank to give them the info for the check, a dealer my buddy sold adverts to in FL called me and cut $8,000 off the price of my 03..couldn't pass it up. Anyway, CHEERS!

Do the 16" split 6 spoke clear the 231mm?

Also, how much time would you estimate it taking to do the fronts including SS lines installed and bleeding? A friend of a friend is doing mine and I want to have a fair price. Thanks!

No, they do not, and no your wheels are not on that list. That list only contains wheels that DO fit.

For someone who knows their way around a tool box, this upgrade could be completed in 3-4 hours, including bleeding the brakes and clean-up of the garage.

With all the research I've done, Sorry to say, (I have the same) no, they don't clear. They are not identified in the list of rims, in this thread, they commonly identified as "Split 3's". These are probably the most common alloy rim. Either you'll have to pickup some new rims or find some 5-star rims off of a 00'-02' Limited. I'm on the hunt myself for these, you'll probably have far less trouble finding some than I, in Canada. I'm having a hard time finding any parted-out donors in our wrecking yards. If I was willing to spend $400+, I would have little problem, but I'm looking at $200-250 used... that's what I paid for my last ones...

Split Three Spokes with 231mm brakes

Here are some pictures of a split three spoke wheel ground down to clear the 231 brakes.

This is my spare, as the stock steel spare does not clear the 231 brakes. I wouldn't recommend grinding these wheels for everyday use. Grinding the caliper is also a bad idea. Sell your stock wheels for whatever you can get and pick up a new set of wheels that fit over the tundra brakes.

I'd guess I removed about 3/16's of an inch of aluminum - just a guess.

Yea I don't know how I'd feel about those being my daily wheels.

If finding wheels is an issue the 199 is still a vast improvement over stock.

Well, I think I have a line on a set of the limited 5-spokes that I am going to try to pick up this weekend. I need new tires anyway so I figure this is a good move so when it comes time to do the brakes I can go ahead and do the 231mm upgrade.

Anyone have any recommendations or experience with any slotted or drilled rotors, or are they worth the added cost. DD rig, plan to stay mostly stock, just stepping up to a 265/75 tire.

BTW, this is an excellent thread.

Slotted and drilled are totally not necessary. If you want to keep the costs down, just get a pair of premium rotors from NAPA (~50 each). Sometimes you can find brembo casted rotors online for the same price. If you want OEM rotors you are look at around 80-100 each

Im going to stick with napa rotors myself. The extra cost just doesn't justify them, maybe if I was lifted and did a lot of heavy towing I'd consider but I'm pretty much in same boat as mrtrucker in plans for my 4

Hose Pinch-off Pliers

Anyone use the hose pinch-off pliers to seal the brake line? I'm trying now and it is hard as hell to get them to close. Wondering if I should just go pick up some vice grips in the morning. If anyone has used the pliers, how flat does the line get because it is stiff as a board. Hoping to finish this job tomorrow. Thanks.

the front brake lines are hard steel lines, just use a vacuum plug to cover the steel line until its time to hook them up. They will just start dripping fluid once you disconnect the old calipers. Just remember to bleed your brakes after installing.

Just use vice grips with a rag inside the jaws. Works fine. See the 2nd pic in the second post of this thread... also posted below for illustration.

the front brake lines are hard steel lines...

You sure about that? You might want to check your facts, sir.
