Hard to find Specs, Info & Measurements on 231mm 13WL Tundra Calipers & Rotors

I'm not familiar with this particular kit, but copper washers are typically for the banjo bolts that secure the brake line to the caliper.
Round two of installing my amazon tbu kit after my first set of calipers defective. What were the odds of that? Anyway, just received the new ones but these came with some copper washers...anyone know where they go? Im assuming to the two bolts to mount the caliper.

Simpler/faster dust shield modification idea

After doing the fitting, cutting, fitting, cutting, etc., shuffle to trim my passenger side dust shield to allow the 231Tundra caliper to fit, I realized there were actually features or "landmarks" on the dust shield that could be used to eliminate the test fitting and allow anyone to just cut the shield and get clearance. (Pics will be clickable for larger/higher resolution versions.)

At the top, there is a notch on the leading edge, indicated by the red arrow. Draw a line from there to the edge of the shield, parallel to the stamped relief's edge, marked with the yellow arrow.

When cut, it should look something like this.

In the middle of the leading edge is this rounded tab marked in red. Trim it back so it is flush with the surrounding area, marked in yellow.

On the bottom, the leading edge has a 'kink' where it changes from coming out at a straight radial from the center to an angle, indicated here with the red arrow. Trim it straight from there to the edge, making it parallel to the nearby stamped reinforcement's edge, marked with yellow arrows.

After cutting:

This will get you about 1/4" minimum clearance all around the 13WL caliper and the 231 rotor (on the inside) and you don't actually have to measure or cut via trial and error. These stamped in reference points are mirrored on both sides and are in the same relative positions on the leading edge side of the dust shield so you can cut left or right shields this way.

I just ordered mine - how were your calipers defective?
the caliper was oozing fluid from inside where the pads go, right were the two sides of the caliper meet. couldve been on my end for over tightening the bleeder too hard where it damaged the seal between the two half or it was just a defect from the company. New ones went on without any issues.

that's what i figured. thanks for the reply.

My order arrived from Amazon and one of the calipers was just missing. The other caliper was new, unpowdercoated and the wrong kind. I sent it back, went to the local Summit Racing warehouse and picked up the same set for a few more bucks. That set had everything it was supposed to. Have yet to fill and bleed them so I don't know that they're any better than yours.

In going through this thread a bit I have noticed that people have a lot of problems with calipers from Amazon. Then when there is an issue you have to deal with return shipping and customer service, its a real pain. I made this mistake myself and if I were to do it again I would just go with Advance or Napa. If there's an issue, which seems to be common with these reman calipers, you can just run to the store and return them. It also seems doubtful that the remans from Amazon are much different from an auto parts store reman. Obviously it would be nice to go Toyota factory new, but the cash is a concern for me.

I just received a caliper stamped 13WL from "Callahan Brakes" on Amazon that is missing the fitting that lies inside of the tapped hole which accepts the hard brake line. It seems like the "13WG" calipers are shipped without this nipple fitting inside of the tapped line hole, and the 13WL is shipped with the fitting pressed into the hole. If I were to convert the hard line to a flex line with a banjo fitting would that resolve this issue? If so what parts are required to accomplish that? I am trying to plan in advance in the event that the new caliper arrives without the proper fitting.

This is what I was shipped

Here's the clearances you get if you cut the shields along those lines I marked a few posts up. Plenty of clearance, so I strongly recommend anyone trimming the dust shield use my advice above - it's fast and you don't need to do trial and error.

amazon

When you buy from amazon, I believe the item gets shipped from powerstop directly. There are other online stores like summit, jegs, pepboys. I believe they get drop shipped from powerstop so even buying from these stores, I may have problems like people who ordered from amazon?

did this swap using the powerstop Tundra kit from amazon last weekend.

I'm using 4th gen 16" wheels with spacers to increase offset, and had no fitment issues (calipers looked WAY back in wheel!).

Only things not mentioned anywhere I wish I had known, was to:

- order a couple of spare pre cut 10" brake lines with metric union nuts and correct flare along with a set of brake line pliers, ahead of starting. One line cracked very easy, and had a nightmare with one seized union nut on the other caliper. I then ordered wrong flare and after waiting for delivery (2 weeks to my tiny island) had to cut and re-flare pipes. Probably time to change these lines on a 20 yr old truck anyway.

- order a set of good quality open ring 10mm and 12mm flare nut wrenches (or a clench wrench) ahead of starting the job

- I also had to add in a couple of washers to the caliper bolts, which were now slightly too long to pinch up properly on the calipers to the hub. Only a couple of mm each side, but a game stopper if I hadn't had washers spare.

I've got the mushy pedal too now,but now one of the rear cylinders needs replacing and ebrake needs adjusting, so that's next mission before I swap master.

Please forgive me if this has been covered but I've been searching for hours without a straight answer.

Can anyone tell me if these 5th gen wheels will fit with a TBU? They are 17" and can be had cheap. Not my pic.

Do the 16" TRD Beadlock wheels clear TBU 13WL with either 199mm or 231mm?

Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks in advanced.

Got mine installed with extended stainless steel lines!

FYI, 231mm TBU fits under these Tacoma TRD Pro wheels.

sendel s38?

Hello I’m new to the forum and I’m looking at getting a set of wheels for my 98 4runner 4wd stock height(for now) and I want to do the tundra brake upgrade later on. The wheels I’m interested In are 16” sendel s38 locker. Does anyone know if they will fit with the upgrade.

SR Tacoma Wheels

Hello, first time post for these forums. I've spent the last couple of days reading the wealth of information in this thread. I have not seen if anyone is running the sr tacoma wheels with the 231mm calipers.

Does anyone on here have experience with these wheels and the tundra brake upgrade without spacers?

Any input would be appreciated try to figure this out before I get new tires.

BigFish, Here's some additional Info you can add into your original posts (since no one wants to scroll all the way to the bottom for this golden information...)

I have found that shops don't distinguish between 13WL and 13WG, no one really seems to know the difference, and lots of people have gotten them mixed up. Well after some extensive googling (at work:naughty:), I figured it out. It is all about the brake line angle.

Ignore the fact that he used a banjo fitting, not an inline.

13WE for reference (199mm)

Feel free to plagerize.

Bottom line is, 13WL is needed for hard line fitting, but if you replace the hard line with flex line, you could use either.

Good to know brother. Thank you
