Has anyone heard about the recall on 89-95 Tacos and 4runners?

I have a 1994 4runner 75,564 miles. Auto matic 4x4, V6 3.0, sun roof, leather

They said that the relay rod may crack under agressive steering movement. Have you guys heard anything?

I took my 95 4runner in for the recall and can say that it does improve handling- I think the charge was about $220 which Toyota picked up. I'd never heard of the problem prior to the recall

Got the recall in the mail last Mon. took it in on thurs. the handling is much improved!

the cost with Labor was $230.00 on Toyota

But they did try to sell me a bunch of other crap like "recomended fluid changes....fuel injection cleaning blah blah blah for the tune of like $600.00 total I laughed at the guy.

The sad thing is some woman or old person will take there truck in to have this recall done and the will "recomend" this crap and they will say OK and Toyota will make there money back 2 fold.

I hate dealerships.

Did you purchase your truck second-hand? I wondered if Toyota was sending out recall notices based on original ownership and if they will honor this factory recall repair for those of us who purchased the truck on down the line.

Nope I bought mine new... but thre recall is for all the trucks original owner or 15th does not matter, I would call your dealer and have them pull up the recall based on your vin #.

The service campaign(recall) is 50N steering rod installation

Hi all . Just got my steering rod replaced by the local dealership. There was no charge and a fresh alignment was included in the deal. 4R 'seem's to drive much better, but that may just be due to the new alignment. I looked my old part over before I took it in and couldn't see any obvious cracks or places of concern. Doesn't mean that some microcracks weren't there.

Would hate to be on the interstate at speed and find out there was a problem.

PS - Thanks very much for posting this thread. I never received a letter stating my 4R was covered in this recall. But when I took my VIN to the dealer, they immediately scheduled an appointmet without reservation.

Call toyota and they will ask for the your vin# and thhey will proces to see if your vehicle needs the recall. Yes the vehicles are being recalled due to heavy stresing on the suspension expecially during aggresive maneuviring.

I talked to dealer and it doesn't matter which owner you are, call and they will ask for you VIN and tell you. I haven't and probably won't get a notice. They said bring it in and they will change it. There is a website, can't remember where, to check you VIN. I figured an alignment would be needed, so I held off. Good to hear improved characteristics though.
