Has anyone used E3 spark plugs in their 4Runners?

Has anyone used E3 (E3.56) Spark Plugs? I bought a set for 2004 SR5 V6. The plugs are actually shorter than OEM. If it is shorter, does it recess into the cylinder wall, or just not protrude as much? Should I return them and get a refund?

Unfortunately, you need to return them and get NGK or Denso, which IMO are the best brands. You must have the same length as the stock plug, otherwise i would think you would have some problems.

Thanks. I thought so too. Even it works fine, Toyota can still use this to void my power train waranty. In fact on the driver side of the cylinder head, there is a sign warning against a shorter spark plug.

What troubles me is on the E3 web site as well as at the local parts store (Kragen and partsamerica.com), both indicate E3.56 is the right kind for 4Runner V6.

Chances are, I think, there is a reason they recommend a shorter thread, and I actually drove for a quater miles or so, the truck runs fine, but I just don't think I should spend extra money to introduce this uncertainty (although E3 claims its design has higher firing effeciency). So tomorrow I will "uninstall" them and return to Kragen. Hopefully they will take them back.

Thanks

IMHO martini might be on to something... They may work. I don't think you should do it though. My big concern would be what happens after the E3's. If someone replaced the E3's with the correct plugs the residue carbon on the threads may prevent the new, correct length plugs from going in. The other thing is if you just 'forced' them in you may induce little stress fractures.

Don't do it IMHO.

All of that is code for I was a dumbass and tried it. I spent hours with a thread chaser and carb cleaner cleaning my threads. No damage, all is good now and I couldn't be happier running the Denso Iridiums. The E3's didn't run worse than stock but no better. E3's with the correct reach may be really good, I don't know.
