I won't waste time reading until I know WHO is behind the "test".

Here’s a guy who tests motor oils and is not an Amsoil employee. He documents results in a long blog that’s not indexed so you have to search around.
He tested a limited selection of gear oils, infotunately not Redline. But Amsoil 75-140 came out on top.
Search for this string;

And we can go into startup times, vs long distance and you want something different for each. If you are like a UPS driver shutting your vehicle down many times a day you want something that flows, vs a long-hauler with something that "sticks" a little better at operating temps...
Hence why different climates call for different specs, ignoring EPA/CAFE standards.
I mean, this guy films his experiments, and gets A LOT more views than "540RAT"
BUT, it is a free market.
We all use what floats our boats, right?
Torco/Neo were not easy to get, Redline is.
Guess what I use to not jump thru hoops and deal with marketing hype of "dealers" that wanted Amsoil cheap for themselves...

I am certainly no expert on the subject, but a lot of people on the bitog forum regard him as a quack/shill, etc, and his results junk science.

I occasionally read BITOG, but isn’t it just another forum, with lots of amateur opinions? Do any oil industry experts actually participate and clear up the controversies and answer questions?
If anyone has actual independent comparative destructive test data, not just chemistry analyses of ingredients like PQIA does or Blackstone UOA, I’d like to see it. Everyone has opinions and testimonials, but show me the data.
540rat is completely clueless about Tribology. His 'testing' methods have been proven to be pointless.
If you really want to know about Tribology, you can get your feet wet on A Review of Mineral and Synthetic Base Oils - Bob is the Oil Guy.
There are some ACTUAL knowledgeable people there. Not misguided individuals spreading misinformation, like 540Rat.
Of course there are some clueless people in Bitog, too. But if you ask a question, you'll usually get a knowledgeable reply.
<edit> I will also add that some Amsoil products ARE good. The best? Well, in the extreme racing vehicles I've worked or consulted on for almost 19 years, we don't use any Amsoil products.

Thanks for that info. Can you refer me to any documentation of motor oil and gear oil ranking based on industry standard tests? All I’ve ever found was Rat with his one data point extreme pressure test, and Amsoil’s testing, which some people discount due to perceived conflict of interest or of its marketing model.
Ranking based on what parameters? I don't have time to go searching. My best advice would be to join Bitog, and ask your question there.
Listen to qualified individuals such as "Molakule".
