Hello everyone.. I have a strange problem that i have been trying to research online but am not coming up with straigh forward answers or experiences.
I have a 1999 4Runner which has been flawless over the past many years. However yesterday, after a brief rain storm, I parked the 4Runner inthe garage, and later noticed that my headlights were on, with no key in the ignition and the headlight switch was set to off. I played with it for a bit, started it, jiggled the switch on and off but no luck. After a little while i just pulled the headlight relay so that my battery would not drain. The next morning i put the relay back in and the lights now work properly.
From reading online on the few cases of this, i pulled a few wiring plugs from the interior fuse block, and i did see some minor corrosion to my surprise on the wiring plug that plugs into the fuse block. Any idea why that would corrode? i cant imagine water getting under my dash, however that is why i mentioned the brief rain storm above. Granted this 4Runner has been through lots of rain storms over the past 15 years with no issue.
I have seen some cases where people have to replace the fuse block itself due to power locks and other issues., could this also be the case with the headlights not turning off? I just want to head in the right driection with this before I start buying parts.
