hella lights

Hey i just wanted to see what you all thought about this. I dont have a brush gaurd on my 03 sport v8 yet but i got some hellas for my b day. i didnt want to wait till i got my gaurd, so i thought of a cool place to put them. i experimented with different places and found out that 2 hella 500's fit perfectly behind the grill and i think it looks awesome...kinda looks like the police interceptors with the hidden lights that u only see when there on. It shines through nicely and the grill doesnt hardly effect the light beam at all. but im gonna post some pics so tell me what you think about the idea

had the same idea.

My only concern was air flow....with a front license plate and two lights covering up the air vents, I am concerned about blocking off air flow to the engine.

Anyone who can give some guidance on this subject? The behind the grill mount is good. The grill bars can be cut if thye obstruct the light, couldn't they?

Otherwise I may have to go the way of a short chin bar like the Westin Safari bar and mount the lights there.

I took some pictures of it just to make it easier to see what im talking about. the pictures are a little blurry cause i took em with my camera phone.

how'd you do that?

I thought you had them wired to teh lower air flow where the stel bumper is at......

so how did you mount them behind the hood opening?

Regarding air flow - I doubt lights that small would have much of an effect.

Although, I'd mount them lower - they look too high up there IMO.

That looks nice, airflow shouldn't be a problem with lights that small.

Putting them lower like Momo, has his will expose to idiots backing up onto your lights in parking lights.

I mean the lower air slot where the steel bumpers are. This would protect the lights from being crushed on a tiny bumper kiss. This salesman suggested theat I mount them behind the plastic grill...that's where I thought it might be nice, but with the front license plates would cover up the lower air slot too much.

I think they look dang good where they are! Nice protection from rocks and collisions, and the higher you mount a light, the better beam projection you get (generally). I have mine in about the same place on my '90, but on the outside of the grille. I thought about lower, but I have seen waaay too many nice lights busted out or ripped off by obstructions, parking blocks and snowbanks.

Yup, i dig em for sure...super steath work! Good idea, i was thinking of mounting some 5-0 lights on mine in that locale.

Show us how you mounted them! They look f'n sweet! What about some pics from inside with them on both with and without the headlights on.

I mounted them upside down haha and put the brackets on the inside of the hood. Its so ironic that there is just enough space to do the mod. like they fit in snug. The only thing is that it is a death wish if you leave them on on accident cause it'll heat up really hot and might warp some of the plastic part of the grill. But i havent had that problem yet thankfully. But thanks for the compliment
