Hello and a question.

Hello to everyone on T4R.org.
I'm new to the Toyota experiance and do have to say that my 91 4Runner is a nice truck! My previous experiance with Japanese built vehicals was a Yamaha 750 and a 88 Isuzu TrooperII, both were great vehicals.
I'm a part time off roader [not that serious about hi-pro mods]who enjoys a good running, capable off road truck. My Trooper was a good one and the Ford Ranger and BroncoII I had before were not!
I'm a 30year motorcyclist with about 300k under my tires, presently riding a 98 Harley Wide Glide.
I teach Hunter Safety in Wisconsin [volunteer time]
Avid shooter and hunter.
Military Vet who cut his off-road teeth in a REAL Hummer, M998 [got stuck in a river in Korea but that's another story!]

But now a question... My 4Runner [3.0 V6] has a intermittant Knock Sensor code. Often enough to pi** me off, as well as kill fuel milage. I understand that the sensor is under the intake manifold.. ..Ok no big deal, I'll get to that and put on a new timing belt all at the same time.
But, with the sensor price being around $200 and I really don't actually know if that is the problem [OK I'm trying to be cheap here!] could I just 'forget' to plug the sensor back in? Would all be OK? Or am I more likely looking at a bad sensor wire? [that I can fix!]
Any ideas?

Thanks Griff.
